Cool thread! I moved to LA from the Midwest a few years ago, and the skies are honestly the most blue I’ve seen since living here. And the air smells great! I live in a quieter neighborhood, and you can actually feel that people are doing things differently. Yesterday you could hear someone practicing the flute. Occasionally you’ll hear someone singing in their apartment.
My girlfriend and I don’t usually really cook, not because we hate it, but because we both work fairly intense tech jobs and right now and cooking wasn’t really an option (until recently ).
But we’ve been doing a ton of cooking, and it’s been a lot of fun to learn together. We made oat milk yesterday, and I’ve been working on a sourdough starter, and bought a sad and wonderful little lemon tree that just started to flower, and hopefully, fruit soon! I’ve also made some progress on illustrations for a children’s book we’ve been working on together.

I wanted to add that as long as we’re all in and some number of us are probably gamers with thicc gaming PCs, one way we can help while stuck inside is to contribute a little bit of our electricity and idle CPU/GPU cycles to Folding @ Home projects. They’ve prioritized COVID-related work right now.
You just gotta install the client, create an ID/join a team if you want to, and let it do its thing.
You can read about the effort here and download the client here
I set up an e4 team for anyone who wants to join! I’ll be running it on my desktop PC and laptop.
Woah another reefer in here!? So cool me too! I started a mini tank a couple months ago. Have a few zoas, florida ricordea, GSP and xenia! My fav is my purple monster zoa that is kinda hidden from the front view. Plan to get a larger frag tank for the fun of it!
Went out to enjoy nature in our go kart today! Managed to find a nice stick and rock we turned into an hatchet☺️ Hope you guys aren’t in panic mode for everything is going to be ok.
So it’s been a little over a month of quarantine here in Chicago. Hope everyone is ok. What have you guys been up too? I decided to practice my carpentry skills and building a workshop by extending my garage. I’m currently in the process of finishing up!
Here’s my progress:
The outside is still just bare plywood but I will be using garage siding to cover it all up to match the rest of the garage
Insulation
I just finished up the drywall and taping yesterday
Like many other people, we are in the process of getting a dog, which we’ve been pushing off for years on account of being too busy to spend quality time getting the dog acclimated.
I am catching up on reading and joined the discord which is fun.
But I don’t think it’s fair to compare what we are experiencing now to free time. It’s not like I’m retired and everything is relatively fine in the world. Half my friends are laid off and unlikely to be hired anytime soon, I have family members I am worried about, it takes me an hour and a half in line to get groceries, I cannot use public transportation safely and do not have a car… I don’t blame people for watching TV as a distraction or not being super productive.
Great projects! I’ve been planting new trees at my house. I always try to see the silver linings in everything so I have tried make the most of this period of slow down. I have spent more time with family, caught up on projects, learned some new skills. I have done a ton of self education that I would not have been able to do if I was busier.
Some pretty neat stories and projects listed here so figured I’d share mine too.
Lately I’ve been cleaning out the barn and getting some of my equipment running again. Got my backhoe and skid loader running and did some landscaping around the place. Dropped a bunch of trees in danger of falling on/near house and barn so that’s a plus.
Also have been spending more time with family and a few friends, not to mention able to be more active on here and made a few additional eBay purchases to complete my personal collection. All in all, this crazy timeline hasn’t been all too bad and have used it to get some stuff done that I was meaning to but just couldn’t make the time for.
Wow, yeah lots of people are doing some really cool stuff!
I’m currently living in Nagasaki, Japan; I moved here about 7 months ago. Don’t have a house or anything, otherwise I would be doing some projects around the house. My past times of late have simply just been taking walks around my area, and of course copious amounts of pawing through mercari and ebay haha!
Being that Nagasaki city is surrounded by mountains, almost everywhere you go is absolutely stunning. Here’s a few photos to give you an idea
Thank you ‘m, Japan did all the work, I just showed up. That’s the best part, everything is either curated to perfection, or the nature is just left to its own devices and it’s perfect anyways haha!
Finally painted this thing! Str8 up tho, being my first time, this thing is coming out dope! Stay safe guys remember to get some dirt on ya nails to build up that good ol immune system!
Now I just need to install some trim, replace an insanely ugly lamp(hanging) with some nice shop lights and bam! Might install an A/C unit too…
