Probably for majority here our collections are a mix of both but if you had to only choose one option to describe your collection or way of collecting which one would it be? For people with only few high end slabs or collectors with dozens of binders or massive non-tcg collections the choice might be easier but collections where there are hunderds or even thousands of psa 9-10 cards it might be more tricky. Personally i’m more drawn towards multiple binders, piles of non-tcg and well structured side collections of even just bulk i like than for example single high end slabs, but it would be interesting to hear how others think about it
I know that the opposite would be better from an investment standpoint, but In the end I have much more gratification from a complete binder, with many many sparkly holos, instead of a collection with a bunch of graded “grails” or trophies.
I can use this mindset even for graded cards: a lot of psa7-8 > fewer 9s >> a couple 10s
Recently i was into both. However my expectations have lowered and now im more than ok with less than perfect cards. Im selling off a lot of my psa 10s for lightly played binder copies and i haven’t been this excited to collect again in a while. Going to complete my prerelease collection hopefuly by the end of 2025. I would rather have binders full rather than a few nice graded cards.
After years of accumulation, I’ve started admiring people with more focused interests. The volume is overwhelming and I’d like the peace of having a smaller amount of more meaningful stuff.
No-brainer for me. I have too many sub-collections at the same time; I collect all languages; don’t care too much about condition of cards, since finding the cards to begin with is hard enough as is; and I have over 13k unique cards and at least 10k+ additional duplicated cards I’d like to get rid of one day. So obviously I’ve voted ‘Quality’. /s
I would say Quality, defined as: Cards I really enjoy and appreciate in the best condition I can fit within my budget. I am still waiting for that bulk collector to chime in! Could be @Quuador or @Alec fit that description.
