The Question of the Day is a way to facilitate community discussion to help members ponder the unanswered questions of the world that are somehow relating to the hobby. Questionsj are many times open ended and up to interpretation. Feel free to post your thoughts in as much or as little detail as you’d like.
Helpful Considerations may or may not help some people focus their answer, these are blurred to not bother those who have their own ideas.
Base, I’m tired off seeing everyone talk about it, I love the set but I’m so sick of seeing Charizard, I just want to collect my sets in peace I don’t care what other people think I just want to have some of my Pokemans without seeing everyone talking about similar Pokemans
I can’t stand how 1997 Topsun, 1996 Bandai Carddass Vending, and 1997 Carddass have been peddled by Pokebros who claim that they should have high value because they are the first “rookie” Pokemon cards. That whole fiasco has spoiled the cards for me, though I think they’re still pretty neat.
I collect all those sets and think those people are annoying too lol, let the sets stay cheap and get cheaper so people can collect them without worrying about the cost!
I feel guilty because I was one of the first people to use the term “rookie” card. I’m sure it would have happened naturally regardless, but I thought it was just a fun way of understanding the first appearance of a pokemon in WOTC sets. I never imagined the hyper obsession, especially with non-tcg cards. Its tough not to associate it with the 1995 1997 topsun cards.
I am tired of seeing Charizards in general. Same goes with Eevee and Eeveelutions. Majority of these content creators just pushing the same cards and hyping product are just click farmers and not collectors.
I’d probably collect more modern. I think seeing the same cards over and over, then seeing how much they cost, has made me overly critical/disinterested in a lot of modern cards that I’d otherwise be interested in collecting.
As joponnes already mentioned, the grey felt hat pika is a great example. It’s a card that I would like to have in my collection but it’s impossible for me to justify the cost when everyone and their dog is sitting on stacks of them and there are much rarer cards I can get for the same amount of money.
Side note: I just looked at the pop report. Holy crap
I really want a grey hat, but was thinking the same. The chart you posted showing population counts is eye opening. I’ll probably just buy a proxy until prices come down in a few years.
I’ll focus on vintage WotC cards for that price instead.
Yea this bugs me too. I will show my binder (full of 40k$ of cards) to my buddies and its always “WOA CHARIZARD” (base one of course) not…gold star, crystal, or shining… not rayquaza gs, or umbreon skyridge or my 4 swirl crystal kabutops or double swirl celebi..etc.
Not that I care about value…its that they care about value and the recognition of base set charizard is just ridiculous. This is base, shadowless, etc. (I dont have 1st edition).
Not that im sick of my base/jungle/fossil…but it is definitely tiring listening to “whats your favourite pokemon? … CHARIZ..” eye roll
Team rocket is objectively a more beautiful set than base but nobody cares about it.
