Today’s Question:
QotD: What is a cohesive set theme that would bring you great happiness to see made?

Helpful Considerations: Southern islands 2? A social commentary set based around the game center? Holiday themed set?

Johto-themed set much like 151 or BB/WF. Including all of the evolution line because the Johto dex is so small. (So it would include Zubat, Golbat, Porygon, Bonsly, Ambipom etc) Probably will not happen because we just had Destined Rivals which gave us Ethan and Team Rocket Executive cards, and a few Johto Pokemon already have IRs… including Ho-Oh, Lugia, and Celebi. And also Giovanni has like 6 cards already.

Would go absolutely insane if they put a Spiky-Eared Pichu chase in it as well. I might as well be writing fanfiction at this point.

Give us Jamboree dammit

I’d love to get a new Delta Species set where we return to Holon. Being able to evolve a Fire-type Cyndaquil into a Psychic type Quilava back into a regular Typhlosion while maintaining the water-type weakness was a novel concept. This has the potential to really disrupt the meta if certain evolution lines get cards in certain typings.

Alternatively, it’d be cool to get a set themed around Orre / Colosseum / XD: Gale of Darkness that prominently featured shadow pokemon (as a spiritual continuation of dark pokemon)… but its about 20 years too late for said set.

I really enjoyed the owner’s pokemon cards from Journey Together and Destined Rivals - I’d really like to see the mechanic continue as we got some pretty cohesive decks from the two sets (albeit some of them bad/underwhelming).

I’d like Jungle and Fossil to get some homage sets.

BW2 based set with Plasma cards back

Similar sets as 151 and Black Bolt & White Flare, but for all other generations (2-4 and 6+) - especially gen 3 (and 2), since I’d love to see a FA Seviper. :snake:

Also, to quote a different QotD from a few days ago:

A full set of just Ash’s Pokémon would be cool to see. And they could include the pre-evolved forms of Pokémon he evolved himself, instead of just the final teams of each season pictured above (except for Primeape  ).

With the trend of modern full art type cards, I would love to see a set that has a focus on more vintage inspired art and Pokemon. We got a good taste of this with 151 and some other cards that have come out. It would be really cool though to see even some of the original artwork in that full art style. This is sort of a made up thing, but this is what I mean:

This would be sorta cool, but most of the original artists (Mitsuhiro Arita, Ken Sugimori, Kagemaru Himeno, Keiji Kinebuchi, Mmiki Tanaka, etc) do not illustrate using the same techniques/mediums anymore.

Arita has done a few in their original style, like the Celebrations Pikachu, but others like Himeno straight up do not illustrate the same anymore and I’m afraid that it wouldn’t capture the magic of the originals very well if they went back using their current style.

All that said, I think it’d be really cool to get a set that is focused on specific artists. Imagine how cool it would be to have a set of the original 151 all drawn by Mitsuhiro Arita? It’d be an extremely popular set even if half of the cards were literal reprints taken from the last 25-30 years.

I’ve always wanted a set which inverses the evolution stages for rarity. So for example Dragonite, Gengar and Charizard are the commons, but Dratini, Gastly and Charmander are the full art chase cards.

Probably will never happen due to competitive reasons.

Would love to see a set with zero art rares where Holos are the chase again and decently rare. Just for one set! Call me a grandpa :man_shrugging:

Irrespective of the spooky season, I would really like to see a ‘horror-theme’ based Pokemon set. Some of the lore is really terrifying and I would love that sinister lore be explored via card artwork.

It is wishful thinking since this is a product also meant for kids.

Cheers!

I’d like an ocean themed set. Aquapolis is close but half is based in the nearby town and forest. Plus we only had 2 gens to work with at that point.

Id like a set of every gym leader, and their pokemon showcased in one set. Not like gym heroes though. This would seperate trainers and pokemon cards, so there wouldnt be a Brocks _____, or a Grushas _____, but instead just an onix, or frosmoth with the trainer cards seperate.

I’d want VS Series 2.0 but with all eras of pokemon and their trainers: lv. x, ex, megas, etc.

This is a great idea too, a lot of potential. One thing for sure is that many of the ‘horror’ aspects of Pokemon have ‘comedic relief’ with characters like Gengar at least. I think it could be pulled off, almost like Team Rocket set with all the dark Pokemon a similar approach with dark/horror themes could be taken I feel.

Just give it a central location. I wanna see different parts of a town/area throughout different card artworks.

I basically just want skyridge/aquapolis again

I’d like to see a set or mini set featuring all starters and evolutions. I know a lot of them get a crazy amount of attention already but I’d like to see the under the radar ones get some shine as well.

I’d like to see sets with owner cards based exactly on the games. Each gym leader has the exact Pokemon they had in game and the artwork is based on the gym. Same with the Elite Four, etc. The locations, other Pokemon, etc. art is based on where they are found in the game. And do this for all versions. Think it’d be cool
