The Question of the Day is a way to facilitate community discussion to help members ponder the unanswered questions of the world that are somehow relating to the hobby. Questions are many times open ended and up to interpretation. Feel free to post your thoughts in as much or as little detail as you’d like.
Helpful Considerations may or may not help some people focus their answer, these are blurred to not bother those who have their own ideas.
Id love for there to be required pokemon attacks to unlock mechanisms. Too dark then you need a firetype move to light a lantern. Surf to get to an island. Pretty much anything that would require you to use nonstandard pokemon but allow you to still keep it variable.
Cave where at the start you drop your pokeballs in a river or down a hole and have to use a party constructed from the cave to get through it and pick your pokemon back up
I’d make fall offs, I don’t know what they are actually called but the ones that you can’t go back up then I would put them into complete darkness and once you go off it restarts you at the start, the only pokemon in this are sturdy neutral nature geodudes, the trainers only drop one money and all have full teams of burn/poison pokemon. Professor oak doesn’t let you use items or a bike, you also have to learn brail
Cave where a rock blocks the entrance when you enter (escape rope or teleport don’t work). As soon as you enter, you need to use “Flash”. There’re no Wild Pokémon, but you need a special bicycle to get through the path. The floor disintegrates with each step (similar to the Sky Pillar in Pokémon Emerald). You’ll need to do the perfect run to escape from the cave. If you fail, you return to the very beginning.
You…you want me to construct an annoyingly difficult cave route?
Part of the the cave (which is monstrously huge) is a natural nuclear reactor, a uranium deposit moderated by ground water that went critical 2 billion years ago, the player will have to walk around with a dosimeter and find a tile with an exact numerical value. The dosimeter is given to you by a hiker after you solve his Morse code puzzle. A sequence of things will then have to be done to punch a hole in the wall. This leads to a part of the cave that is infested with giant, insanely over-leveled c0ll3ctian forme Ariados (Poison/Dark.) After getting through those and going down 3 stairs, you’re met with another wall. Now for the real challenge, an Unown puzzle that makes Regi braille look like nothing. This leads to the final lowest level, which requires full hazmat gear to enter, given to you by the Hiker’s friend (who is also into telecommunications) in exchange for a full odds shiny Unown that needs to be caught in game and a held item only found on the giant Ariados in the cave (which is a finite resource.)
This will at last give you full access to the lowest level. But there is nothing there! You just have to open it and physically enter into it to go forward in the game (a gate will mysteriously open at the upper level,) then return after the Pokemon league for an even greater challenge. This challenge will involve nuclear physics, metallurgy, extensive knowledge of Latin, Hebrew and Aramaic, the evil counterpart to Arceus, Arceus itself and a full alphabet of shiny Unown caught in game.
You know the tiles that you step on that move you forward and spin your character? Those, but an entire cave system of those, but the catch is that they also rotate 90 degrees every 3 seconds meaning that each floor of the cave has to be stepped on pixel perfect to complete the floor. The cave is also procedureally generated, so it cant be mapped. If you fail a floor it spins you back down the jump down the floor 1 again. Also a level 1 zubat encounter everytime you enter floor 1.
A cave that generates zubats would be annoying, but there should be a required path where you have to fight multiple enemies, almost like a trainer battle one at a time, and then at the end, you have to kahuna pokemon like lunantis. Annoying, but once you complete it, so worth it.
Also sometimes the cave will flood, so be prepared to have a surf pokemon.
gimme a nugget bridge-like cave where zubat has a 100% chance of spawning, all the trainers have full teams of 6 snorlax only knowing explosion, and you need all 12 HMs to make it through
Edit: Yes zubat is spawning on the water tiles too.
Bingo. I couldnt remember which cave that was. But up the difficulty and do your maze as well.
Of course thered probably be a programming error where if you speak to the first person you see in the cave it flags all challenges as complete and lets you move on without any penalty. Only the true players would learn the walkthrough method.
A simple, open cave with three levels, but it has to be explored by entering each room in the right order from multiple possible doors (think Mt. Moon X Turnback Cave).
