Today’s Question: QotD: We all know values are up but, in total, how much have you spent on your collection?
Helpful considerations: It doesnt relate to current value nor does this question want to know that. Do you keep tally? Do you assume its 7 digits? This is regardless of if youve gained value for trades, just a straight question of how much have you spent on only what you consider your collection?
I’ve kept a spreadsheet since 2020 with all my slab purchases, grading fees, and most sealed product purchase prices. I used to track sold prices for things I sold, but stopped doing that last year for obvious reasons. And thank God. I don’t want to know what I let things go for anymore. Used to be a time I had to make sure I wasn’t selling at a loss! How absolutely spoiled I’ve become.
Ironically, I feel like prior to the current boom I took more conscious care of how much I was spending. Now with pricing going meteorically high on nearly everything I previously wanted to collect, I haven’t bought much but when I do it’s simply because it “feels” right rather than because it fits a specific budget.
But either way, I’ve definitely spent a lot the past few years
Somewhere between “I should’ve spent more buries face in ice cream” and “haha I graded $7 1st ed base charizards and now sleep on my treasure like Smaug with a smirk on my face.”
This reminds me of a Mario Winnans song. But aside from that, me too. But was it worth it? Moreso than all the beers I drank in college, which is probably still a higher number.
I only should be able to track how much money I did spend on grading my collection…
The cards were pulled in the days they were released or traded for back in the days. No way to figure out what I did spend on those. Some sets I opened 6 boosterboxes, some sets I did 24 or 30.
