Would honestly probably look for medium priced/commons that I need. From my experience, the high end stuff gets marked up a lot and just isn’t worth it. But also just cards with dumb artworks that I can pick up to troll friends
Went to a small one recently, half the tables had Insta360 cams setup. It is a kind of an anti-theft measure and for tracking sales but feels super awkward.
I went to one recently and it was exactly this scenario. I was so turned off the by having cameras shoved in my face I left without even seeing what else was available. So annoying and unfortunate.
To answer the prompt, I mostly like looking for binder copies of cards from older sets (late WOTC/early EX eras), but I’ll occasionally look for other merch if I find it interesting.
I’m in small world America no streaming at the shows I go to. I like to look for binder cards. Either 4’11 mons I have not seen or enjoy or cards for my artist binders. I do have a modern AR binder. I loved scooping a bunch for a few bucks . That’s getting a bit harder these days, still on the radar. Trading for these type of cards is also fun.
Tbh my favorite thing to do at card shows is looking through bulk and searching for hidden gems. Finding random crimps/miscuts/errors of low value cards is a top tier experience and a nice change of pace from the flashier side of card shows.
Any graded 10’s of my species that I don’t already have, good vintage JP cards that could be worth grading (to then sell and pay for more species specific 10’s ) cards for my artist binder collections, and any random periphera that catches my eye.
Skip the show and just go to meet ups before and after
Sort of joking sort of serious. They’re a fun way to kill the day but unless you’re really lucky you’re probably not going to find good deals on anything at the actual show. Everything is usually wayyyy over priced and in most cases it’s the same crap over and over. Overpriced modern and lower-grade (also overpriced) vintage.
Go and have fun looking around, get your steps in, meet some people from online but save your money and buy it online.
I used to go to shows thinking I would just browse, meet people, and try to find unique cards I don’t typically see. I quickly realized they’re too hectic for my liking so now I just look for the more expensive cards I’m after that I want to see in person before purchasing.
