Today’s Question:
QotD: Going from weakest to strongest, how far along would you personally be able to confidently beat Pokemon in a battle?

Helpful Considerations: Can you beat an Igglybuff? What about a weedle? A weepinbell? How many pokemon can you beat until you have no chance?

Let’s see, Igglybuff would cremate me with Fire Blast, Weedle would poison me, Weepingbell would filet me with Razor Leaf or douse me in lethal Acid, Magikarp would evolve and have me for lunch.

I could maybe take an Abra that teleports.

No way you can beat a Pokemon bare-handed, even the weakest rattata could effortlessly sever limbs.

A newborn igglybuff starts with SING and POUND, so it can butcher you quickly (as we’ve learned from the anime, Jigglypuff is insanely op).

You might have a chance with some weapons though, and taking down a lv. 1 Wingull with a Taser (considering its 4x weakness to electric moves).

I’m a PókePacifist It would be against my nature to battle a Pókemon.

+1. I have the same sentiment although knowing myself I stand no chance against any Pokemon. I was actually thinking maybe Metapod or Kakkuna but even then I think they would have my number.

Cheers!

Ah, so Niece is a Timid nature. That works well considering your speed increases which makes it easier to escape battles.

They will just use harden till they have max defense then you will spend ten minutes trying to kill the bug until you get fed up and flee, then a bug catcher challenges you and now you have to beat 5 of them while poisoned from a weedle that poisoned you as you were trying to avoid the tall grass but accidentally stepped in a patch and got an encounter with a weedle

22 pound fish jumping at you and we think we’re beating this :sob: :sob:

As long as I’m on dry land, I think I’m safe

I also had Magikarp in mind but I am pretty sure it will slap my lights out. It is inspired from real life carp fish which are just a handful. Add in the fact that you piss it off too much and it evolves into a dragon.

Cheers!

I’ve handled 22 pound fish before, but not 22 pound fish that can evolve into the atrocious pokemon at any moment. :drop_of_blood: :carpentry_saw:

Battle as in pokemon battle? This sounds like assault otherwise lol. Im sure Id be naive and cocky for either and end up losing to a metapod in both scenarios irl.

You opened my eyes with that carp comment. I hadn’t even considered how wild real ones are. I’ve got decent spatial awareness from juggling but I don’t think that’s doing much if it evolves mid-fight.

The real answer.

Grass types I can kill with round up

bug types I can kill with some bug spray

anything thats a fish I just bring on land and its done for. Yeah even sharpedo. I’ve seen people fish up sharks before.

poison types I can just use some mr.clean and a scrub daddy. Sorry muk.

fighting types I will put those chinese finger traps on them when they aren’t looking. can’t hit me now. Hitmonlee is an exception unless I get a really big one and put his legs in it.

All egg pokemon, togepi, exeggcute and chansey etc I’ll just use them in a baking recipe for some cake.

I dunno what else clever I can come up with.

I can continue with the same theme from the previous qotd

Since you mentioned ‘weakest’, I’m gonna assume the Pokémon will be level 1 when I battle it (although I guess it could level up during the battle?). I’m also gonna assume I’m without any weapons myself.

Going over some weak-looking gen 1 Pokémon:

  1. Caterpie: nope, it has String Shot and will just trap me and then dissolve and eat me slowly.
  2. Weedle: lol nope. It also has String Shot, but in addition Poison Sting..
  3. Pidgey: nope, we’d be at a stale-mate, which isn’t ‘beating’. It only has Tackle, so it would be like avoiding an angry pigeon, but I won’t be able to attack a flying creature either. And because it can fly, it has a higher chance of beating me than the other way around.
  4. Rattata: likely not. A huge aggressive rat’s bites and claws, and possible deseases, are already annoying to deal with. And a Lv1 Rattata has Tackle and Tail Whip on top of that.
  5. Oddish: nope. It has Absorb, to steal my life away, and Growth to increase the strength of Absorb.
  6. Poliwag: lol nope. Water Gun and Hypnosis at Lv1..
  7. Abra: another stale-mate, since it’ll just keep teleporting away.
  8. Bellsprout: probably not. It only has Vine Whip, and although it likely hurts like a bitch, it could be partially dodgeable and partially endured to get close enough. But the way it dodged all of Pikachu’s attacks and beat it, would be a no way for me.
  9. Slowpoke: nope. How do you beat something that doesn’t respond to pain. And it has Tackle and Curse on Lv1, so nope..
  10. Krabby: nope. Although Ash beat it with a stick in the anime, after losing a finger, it was mostly by capturing it with a PokéBall, not exactly by beating it. And a Lv1 Krabby should already have Water Gun and Leer..
  11. Exeggcute: Nope.. They may be just eggs, but with Absorb and Hypnosis. And there’s six of them.
  12. Horsea: another nope. Water Gun and Leer.
  13. Magikarp: probably another stale-mate. It only has Splash on Lv1. And although I’ve caught 15kg carp before, whereas Magikarp is ‘only’ 10kg (my dad has carp fishing as a hobby, so I’ve tagged along every now and then - off-topic, but my dad’s carp record is 38.5kg - ~85lbs for our non-metric members. I likely wouldn’t be able to even lift that, since irl carps also use splash. :joy: ) Anyway, it’s mostly a stale-mate since Magikarp’s scales are way too hard. It’ll likely level up and evolve before I could beat it..

As for some weak-looking baby Pokémon:

  1. Cleffa: nope. It has Splash, Pound AND Copycat on Lv1. With the Pound alone, it’ll likely hit me a lot harder than I would hit it..
  2. Igglybuff: nope. Sing, Pound, AND Copycat on Lv1…
  3. Togepi: nope. Growl, Pound, AND Tackle on Lv1.
  4. Smoochum: nope. Lick and Pound on Lv1. A paralyzing lick doesn’t sound very pleasant either..
  5. Azurill: nope. Splash, Water Gun, AND Tail Whip on Lv1…
  6. Budew: nope. Absorb, Growth, Stun Spore, Worry Seed, AND Poison Sting on Lv1. Jeez, these baby Pokémon don’t mess around.. :open_mouth:
  7. Bonsly: plausible. It only has Fake Tears, which lowers Special Stats that I don’t have; and Copycat, which mimics the last move/attack done by either of us. So against it, it depends on both our endurance and toughness, and it hopefully not leveling up to Lv4 before I could beat it.
  8. Mime Jr.: nope. Pound, Copycat, AND Confusion on Lv1.
  9. Toxel: lol nope. I had the feeling it would have some poison or electric attack, but I was still curious. But it apparently has Belch, Tearful Look, Nuzzle, Growl, Flail, AND Acid on Lv1.

Narrowing the stale-mates down a bit more:

Pidgey, Abra, Magikarp, and Bonsly are the most likely candidates from these above. Magikarp is likely too tough to beat, and it’s too risky when it can evolve into Gyarados at any moment. Pidgey is also too risky, since one mistake on my part and a Tackle of its beak can do some serious damage to me.
Abra and Bonsly will just teleport and cry respectively if I do nothing, but from those, I’ll likely won’t even be able to touch Abra, since it can sense my present from any side and will just teleport away to who knows where. In fact, if it teleports very high above me and falls on top of me, it might actually beat me instead. Then again, Abra is a cat, right? So it’ll likely won’t hurt that much if it falls on top of me, regardless of the height it came from.

So yeah, I’ll take my chances with Bonsly, and actually deem my chances reasonably good. I can ignore its Fake Tears while trying to beat the crap out of it, and the Copycat will probably only reflect my punches/kicks halve the time, since the other halve will be its own Fake Tears, if I read this part of Copycat correct:

Hopefully I can beat it before it reaches Lv4 where it learns Flail.

I gave this way too much thought, haha.
