Today’s Question:
QotD: Can you describe a favorite Pokemon episode in a negative manner?

Helpful Considerations: Example: Ash has near death experience trying to find a pokemon that will let him get revenge for a battle loss, only to use his time in limbo for pranks, and learns to laugh at death while retaining nothing meaningful and still gaining the pokemons support through no effort or training.

Prelude:

You build up your weak ass homie from day one when he was small, ugly, and scaring the girlies.

Kept him with you when he ended up paralyzed for a long minute, eyes open 24/7 just staring into everyone’s souls.

When he came out of it out and started putting in work y’all were finally rocking together, whooping on fools and taking names.

Main Story:

One day, all of a sudden some floozy he was feelin’ was giving him the run around even though he was a swole pretty boi now.

He asked for your help to make her see he was enough, even though he always had been.

After multiple attempts at swooning her and a fresh fit she still didn’t want him.

Some thugs end up kidnapping her and her entire village since she looked exotic and captain save a hoe and you saved her life. Not to mention the lives of her whole entourage and fam, and even her haters.

Now she was all over him, looking at him all soft like she should have from the jump.

Then he wanted to go live with her and go from being a part of your story to finally create his own.

You were sad, never thought a classic case of hoes before bros would seperate you two. But as the saying goes, there is a first time for everything.

You both cry, but you give him your blessing to go be with the girl of his dreams. No love was lost that day, only gained.

Way down the road:

You haven’t heard from your boy in damn near 25 years. Not a text, letter, Facebook request, just a whole lotta hooplah.

You go on to become the number 1 mofo in the world, by unanimous decision, that no one can deny.

All the homies you used to run with show up, they were waiting to celebrate with you. Never doubting you would be the all time Mr. Worldwide champ for a second.

He showed up too, and then you finally knew, he never forgot you. You are still a little salty he never did hit you up in all that time though.

I feel like most of my favorite Pokémon anime parts are mostly in the movies or shorts before it; or just parts of episodes.

And since @lyleberr already described one of my favorite episodes that came to mind first in his spoiler, I’ll go with another one of my favorite episodes:

In an episode where Pikachu pretends to be asleep since he’s too afraid to battle; Charmander almost breaks its back after another Pokémon jumps on top of it; and Ash burns his hand, our protagonist is encouraged to burn his hand yet again after a girl breaks her arm.
The day after, Ash and two other people almost die after being caught up in an explosion. After that, another person and their Pokémon do actually die by drowning in the river. Followed by yet another explosion, thanks to flammable gas, causing two more people and their Pokémon to fly off into the distant (although they defintely won’t die, since it’s Team Rocket, who’ve become immune to those kind of explosions and high altitude falls after experiencing it so many times before).
After the Pokémon Ash borrowed almost loses an eye thanks to 1/3rd of a bird, he still manages to finish first, after that between his legs turns white, which made the girl with the broken arm very satisfied. It’s not called the Big P Pokémon Race for nothing, folks!

EP033 The Flame Pokémon-athon!, and the Big P Pokémon Race is the actual name of that race, haha. :winking_face_with_tongue:

A dumb 10 year old oversleeps on the most important day of his life. Because of this he’s late to pick up his first magic animal. Instead of getting a cool fire lizard, grass frog or a normal turtle he gets a jaundiced rat that doesn’t like him. Fortunately, the rat learns to like him after committing grand theft auto and pissing off some birds.

One of the best episodes of the original series. Ash’s Charizard & Clair’s Dragonair facing off against a wild Dragonite that had become confused from using Outrage.

Any battle-centric episode with Masaaki Iwane as animation director is peak. Movie animation quality in a long-running TV anime.

Mine:
Demon kaiju are released from ancient prisons out of ignorance, to destroy a historic site, and imprison some people, while the heroes prove to be useless bystanders. A recurring, typically unwelcome, nuisance returns, and its usual selfish antics are surprisingly but deservedly met with disregard. The destruction continues, and the nuisance character is assaulted. However, this frees another kaiju from it’s enslavement, to end the destruction and imprison the others once again. With this, the heroes are freed to continue their typical monotonous, inept, and often inconsequential role within the series.

EP072: The Ancient Puzzle of Pokémopolis?

Indeed. IDK why, but I think I appreciated the episodes that left lore to be desired and questions unanswered. Were these things pokemon? Demons? How do they fit in the universe? Also the Bill episode with the giant dragonite. Was it real? How? Did James get a boob job, or was it just prosthetics? /s/ SOOOOo many questions.

I kinda want to go back and watch Series 1 now…

Been thinking the same, but knowing myself, I want to watch the Orange Islands after it as well, and then Johto after it as well (mostly due to the opening songs), and next thing you know I’m watching all 1300+ episodes (again).

And considering I’m currently watching every movie, series, and short of the Marvel Universe in chronological order (little over 23 full 24-hours days of content to watch - I’m almost at the halfway point though :upside_down_face: ), it’ll be a while before I’d even consider re-watching Pokémon, ngl.

This is exactly what happened to me. “Oh I’ll just rewatch Indigo league but stop after that” to “yeah, let’s just finish Johto since I never did as a kid”. Fast forward to now and I’m on Diamond & Pearl watching in Japanese without English subtitles (because the new dub was bad). It’s so easy to keep watching!

Nice! I switched from English dub to Japanese sub around the XY era, since I had to wait longer and longer for dubs to come out. I think someone here on the forum or in Discord mentioned the dub is currently literal months behind on the sub.

But since you’re already go to the DP era, just continue watching and finish everything. Don’t forget the movies, specials, spinoffs (e.g. Pokémon Origins or Pokémon Congierge), and banned episodes, haha. I’ve already watched all of them about 7-8 years ago, and recently also caught up with the latest season. I’m only a bit behind on some of the specials/spinoffs, like Pokétoons, which I’ll get to eventually. :person_shrugging:
