PWCC account limited for shill bidding

I mean to ask whether the scandal (involving alleged shill bidding) is known to have affected the auction prices of Pokémon cards (i.e., if PWCC or affiliates are known to have shill bid on their Pokémon card listings specifically)

In other words, for all we know, it could have been limited to sports cards?

We know a lot less than that. As in, we know no more than the email eBay sent out

Okay, good to know (what we don’t know haha)!

The best I’ve ever seen

A few people went down a rabbit hole with Goldin’s Vault. In summary:

  • They’re renting Vault space from Atelier FAS, LLC (71 Southgate Blvd, New Castle, DE)
  • Possibly a shared space (not just cards or Goldin there)
  • Goldin may charge “use tax” to return your cards
  • PWCC will charge fulfillment fee & first year storage fee (if applicable) = 1%+
  • Goldin is not liable for any damages to cards due to changes in humidity or temperature once they have possession (even though it’s insured? - maybe I misread this one)

Seems like a lot of nickle and diming on mandatory fees for a lower quality product. Goldin only made sense to me on super high end items. Basically, whatever Ken shares, pumps or shows on CNBC gets a premium. Everything else is a discount.

Heard that from a few others aswell, care to share why Goldin would be better for high end (50k+)?
I have been “invited” to try PWCC’s Premier for a while a now once again after the eBay blow up.

I’m most intrested in the fee that PWCC now will take for selling, will the fees be the same as before, or will they go lower? (or higher)

Sorry if it’s been mentioned before, but submissions to PWCC’s now October monthly auction (which was formerly the September auction) are now being accepted until 15th September. This’ll mean it’ll have a 2 month window for cards to be submitted instead of the usual 1 month, so it may be a very big block if people haven’t got cold feet.

I have several cards scheduled to appear in the block and I’m still on the fence as to whether I actually want them there. I have full faith in PWCC as an auction house, but I don’t especially want my cards to sit alongside a dozen identical cards in the same block. We’ll see though, I might just take the plunge and hope for the best.

There were several people (including me) waiting for pwcc monthly to make purchases, that probably will remain doing the same, no matter what ebay said is true or no. The shilling in certain items was rampant at one point, thats true, hoping those times are now gone and pwcc handles their new system properly.

One of the biggest things PWCC could do on their new platform, is stop giving buyers 30 days to pay. It basically holds the card owners hostage waiting to see if they’ll get paid or not, and also prevents them from making a transaction for the card outside the PWCC listing or re-auctioning it. eBay doesn’t allow anywhere close to that long before the seller can flag as “not paid” and just relist their card.

At the longest, buyers should have 14 days and that would only be if the item sold for at least $10k or more in price.

Hey man, just to clarify it was not 30 days. It has been 10 days for payment for vault purchases since at least 2020. Even that I thought was too long but I understood it

That is definitely a shared space. Alt uses the same address for their vault and I’m sure quite a few others do, as well.

Starting at 33 minutes in. Nothing world breaking but some interesting tidbits from PWCC including that they have 130,000 registered users…talks about that Brent screenshot that Dave posted in this thread…how many banned users they had in their list for non payers and shills that they provided to eBay etc

It’s not a sure fire winner. For a bit, cards over $100k were going for at least the broader market price if not higher. Getting good value at auction is a solid indicator. It also could have been the comparables were during peak Pokemon last year. I can’t think of any items other than Charizard below $100k that beat eBay/PWCC prices. Even Heritage is starting to perform well on more affordable items.

Getting approved on Goldin is tough and there’s hardly any niche bidders. Pokemon is a conglomerate of niches.

But Heritage and Goldin takes 5-10% + 20% of sold price in fees

Yeah, Heritage is like 30% fees, you couldnt beat PWCC’s 8%

I wonder if the auction format will be the same as it was on eBay; for us from the UK/EU, the end times of the auctions were always the middle of the night so Gixen was essentially a necessity. Now that it won’t be on eBay, we obviously can’t use Gixen which may lead to a drop in bid participation.

It’s also annoying that multiple copies of the same card always finish within a couple of seconds of each other, preventing the ability of a 2nd chance if you lose out on the first copy.

If PWCC actually has a strong defense against these claims, they could get a contingency fee lawyer and wouldn’t have to pay for attorney fees out of pocket. Guaranteed there are firms out there that would take the case because eBay has deep pockets that could pay a judgment. But PWCC would have to prove to the lawyer the strength of their case before they jumped on board.

On the other side, there could easily be a class action lawsuit filed against PWCC by anyone that lost money due to shill bidding. Start digging around in discovery and find a few emails back and forth between PWCC executives about the need to stop shill bidding and they didn’t do anything to stop it and boom, could become an expensive settlement they have to pay.

Add that onto a lack of revenue for PWCC for a couple months, and they could easily experience cash flow problems.

Running a business is hard.

Maybe DM the consultant person who has been posting here. I had a request made, and PWCC has been swamped with inquiries. I never got an email back, but petiparty helped me out. Also, I’ve used the chat function over the last week with questions and have gotten them answered every time there. Sometimes it took a bit, though.

The new marketplace fee structure. Very similar to the old one
