Purchasing fails...what's yours?

I did the same thing.

Just gonna leave this horrible purchase here… Got my money back though. Seller had numerous base set holos and charizard in the picture. Gave me this dumpster fire! Enjoy…

A few years ago I quickly snagged a new listing for a base unlimited box. I wasn’t paying attention and it ended up being a Spanish box. It wasn’t mentioned in the title.

I hope the hair doesnt come with the card when you get it!

Thanks buddy, appreciate that but I ordered another one yesterday (English this time!)

Similar here. Was doing a big buy from various sellers on eBay to get some of the 'Saurs in I was missing. Added various cards to cart to do easy checkout. Messaged each seller that I would do multiply card purchases while I was making them offers. Because I was trying to be a cheapskate I low balled a few offers and since I bought more than 10 cards from each seller these low ball offers got accepted. Ended up buying the same holo rare 4 times, all in NM+ condition which are now just sleeved up in the ‘extras’ box.

I won a jungle jolteon 1st edition psa 10 off a fb auction, thinking I had knocked another jungle off the list, i was buzzed. An hour later, realised I already had one!

I could have been a douche and not went through with it, but i knew the guy and was a fair price so I’m now doubled up!

Depending on how much you paid for it, I definitely wouldn’t count that as “fail” considering how valuable that card is. Haha.

Assuming it’s holo, of course.

A few years ago on Xmas eve, I decided to treat myself and bought a GMA graded 1st edition Charizard. It took a few weeks to arrive as I bought it from the US. When I cracked it out of the case I realised it had a fake stamp :pensive:. This resulted in selling my whole collection and stepping away from the hobby.

I once bought several Japanese Neo Destiny packs, they were like $15-20 each which I thought was quite good. In total I think I spent around $100. Of course, in going back to the listing, I realized the seller was selling OPENED packs with all the cards put back in…of course this was buried in the description, but still a big fail on my part for not reading the description clearly.

Thankfully I was able to cancel the order before the “packs” were shipped.

I bought around 5 PSA 10 Japanese Base set Raichu’s at what I felt was a price too good to turn down on the spot. Of course soon after I realised they were CP6 versions and not the original base ones… ended up slowly giving them all away to people who made purchases from me.

I was looking at buying raw cards from this one seller at auction. I was bidding on about 25 of them and they were all ending at the same time. As the shipping was from the UK and I’m in Aus it would have only been worth it if the shipping was split between multiple cards. So it was better to win 2+ auctions or none at all.

I ended up winning… 1 card. Shipping was like 20 and the card cost 30 ha.

Yeah, it’s shot up in value, but was hoping to knock another off the set list :rofl: yeah, holo.

Gorgeous card, so hard to resent him!

Did this as well. Ordering some cards from Aus, purchased one and looked through his others and asked if he could combine shipping. No issue on his end, so after looking through all the cards I was going to purchase, I remembered I had a slow order at PSA with literally everyone single one. Still paid for the one, but that shipping was woof.

I think the following happened three times in the past four years: I buy a recently released Pikachu Common I still need for my Pikachu collection. Only to realize on arrival I had already purchased it prior, but forgot to mark it in my checklist…

Last week I also purchased a Spanish SM Promo Pikachu for 25 euros (I don’t mind buying Pikachus I still need for ~30 USD in general, but for newer releases which are usually < 5 euros it’s not too smart I guess). The day after I realized I could buy the entire Collection Box with three Spanish SM Pikachus, as well as two more promos, AND four Spanish booster packs for 4 euros more (29 euros). Luckily the seller hadn’t shipped out my earlier bought card yet and he was willing to refund me and cancel the order.

Oh, and one non-Pokémon: I’m not even sure what it was anymore (I think a shirt button or something along those lines), but I remembering needing two of a certain product. So I saw it on eBay, put two in my cart and ordered it, only to realized on arrival the title contained (100 pc), so I now had 200 when I only needed 2.

Greetz,

When I first got back into collecting again I bought a lot of holo WOTC cards off of some random from letgo. I had no idea on price point and didnt go online to check and I just bought them. I probably way overpaid for them. It was 260 bucks I believe, which at the time I didnt care about price I just was jazzed to get a bunch of holos! Alot of them were ones I didnt have in my collection from when I was a kid. I’d probably be 100 bucks either today if I price checked them. The only cards I specifically remember from that lot are neo gen unlimited lugia, unlimited neo rev misdrevous, and unlimited neo gen togetic!

There was a post on Mercari for a raw 1st Edition Shining Charizard. The seller had it initially up for $700, which was roughly what Troll & Toad had for a NM version at that time. The next day at work I got a notification that he had dropped the price to $400. I quickly offered him $350 and he accepted immediately. That should’ve alerted me then and there. But being the noob I am and not examining the card in the post, I waited till the I got the item and realized it was a fake!

Luckily, I did not rate the seller which gave me the opportunity to start the return process. Mercari approved the return and I got my money back. From then on, in regards to raw cards, I ALWAYS ask the seller if it’s legit and exactly as described in the post. In instances such as my “fail” purchase, corresponding documentation will only benefit the buyer.

Unfortunately, I saw the same card and seller (I remembered the city and state) reposting on eBay. I called him out on it and no response. There were multiple bidders. I truly hope someone else didn’t get duped like I did.

Mine’s more of a NOT purchasing fail. Just got pack into the hobby this past year : (

Also last month I hit a $800 BIN for a Jungle Snorlax PSA 10 1st Edition NON-holo, thinking it was the holo obviously. Had to take an unpaid item strike because the seller wouldn’t cancel the order. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
