Sorta weird question: I saw some relatively cheap top loaders ($20 for 100) so I thought I’d try them out. They’re “pro safe” which I dont really recognize and can’t find much on from a google search. They came in and as soon as I opened the packaged I got hit with a really strong chemical-ish smell. I’ve tried to open all the packs to air them out but they still retain a good bit of this smell after a few days. Has anyone else experienced this with top loaders? Am I at risk of damaging my cards if I use these with a penny sleeve?
Haha gross. I’d just return them if I were you, or throw them out.
Probably not something you want to mess with especially with valuable cards. Return them that’s not normal
Years ago I had an LGS cleaning out stock of some stuff that never sold, including some toploaders that I can’t recall the name of, but they weren’t card savers or ultra pro. But I remember them having this wicked bad chemical smell to them and upon closer inspection, it looked like some of them were even starting to melt into themselves and the ones that didn’t had almost a sticky and tacky residue on the surface.
Edit: Least to say, they ended up throwing them out when I pointed it out to them. I would recommend doing the same or at least return them.
I’d definitely return them, you don’t want smelly cards or worse, damaged cards due to those being non free-pvc.
Does PSA dock points for super stinky cards?!
you can get the “STANK” qualifier
