PSA Introducing Gold Label for Comics

PSA is starting to roll out their comic book and magazine grading options, and one of the things unique is that PSA 10’s will receive a gold label, instead of the standard red:

My question is: Is this something people would like to see done for graded TCG/Sports cards as well?

I’m kind of on the fence. I like the idea of a 10 having a premium look, but I appreciate the classic and standardized look of the basic red label.

I’m not a fan of anything about this label tbh. The gold, the font sizes, the white space. Looks like a basement grading company

Honestly at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if PSA adds a Gold Label for trading cards. The super 10 game is really the only remaining draw for Beckett. It would also cause chaos for all the psa 10 collections.

Are you thinking that they would start making all future 10’s gold labels? Or adding something similar to CGC’s Pristine 10, while keeping the standard Gem Mint 10?

Adding an additional 10.

Okay, yeah that would clearly cause significant issues with collections and the market.

It feels more like a marketing gimmick than anything else, and I’d hope PSA (and their large market share) don’t feel the need to stoop down to that at this time.

I feel this is more an attempt to try and win over some of the comic book grading market share. Unlike Pokemon, PSA is not top dog here, so they need something to separate themselves from the likes of CGC.

In many ways it’s similar with what CGC did to distinguish themselves from PSA with Pokemon grading by introducing the “pristine label”.

Damn that label is ugly. I’m more of an ungraded comic collector, but competition in this market is probably a good thing for the collector

idk about this, mainly because psa’s gem mint grade is already vastly superior to cgc/beckett “gem mint” and already pretty comparable to their pristine grades. psa 10 sells for multiple times as much as cgc “10” (old 9.5) and bgs 9.5, and only slightly less their pristine counterparts (and depending on the card can be pretty much the same) and i’m sure psa already knows this.

so then the only point of psa adding a superior 10 grade would be to compete directly with bgs black labels, which are already an extremely niche case. and psa prolly doesn’t even care about beckett in general and their interaction will go something like this

and then what happens when BGS introduces the new triple 10 grades with quad grades for each of the labels

As a primarily comic collector, these labels are really ugly and their grading standards are basically identical to cbcs with nothing new brought to the table They are going for the jugular on Beckett in comics and I can imagine they can take some share from them. I think they have a chance to make a mark in magazines though since it’s more niche and TATs at cgc are shitty for mags

Does Beckett have significant market share in comic grading? I don’t know much about comics but it seems like everything I see graded is CGC.

There’s no specific numbers out there that I’ve seen like we get from Gemrate for cards but I wouldn’t be surprised if CGC has 90% of the graded market with CBCS/Beckett at 9% and all other basement companies like PGX with the final 1

Extremely ugly in my opinion.

  • PSA-red and gold are a bad color combination
  • The 10 grade font looks wimpy
  • So much white space
  • Tiny cert number

It’s really bad. Good thing they asked influencers for their opinions on it before going live

What kinda stuff do you collect? :eyes:

Strictly golden age WWII covers and I have a handful of modern (1980s, etc) signed stuff but that’s it

Not cheap and the mags have super long tat. Not sure what they were thinking lol The other tats are good, if true
