"PSA Hit You With Confuse Ray! It's Super Effective!"

Hi everyone! PSA got me good on this one!!

I want to preface this post by saying:

1.) I am a simple collector, not a whatnot streamer ripper shipper etc. I work my full time job and collect what I like on the side.

2.) I exist deep in the Mewtwo cave compared to the average collector, but probably pretty novice compared to most people on here.

Here’s what happened:
I submitted my first ever card to PSA (Gold Star Latias #105) after @smpratte answered my Patreon question. I mostly did it for fun, but also this is one of the few cards in my large collection that I have no emotional attachment to. My plan was to grade it, and use it purely as a profit experiment. Like I said, I don’t flip cards ever, in fact..the hobby for me isn’t about money. I can’t remember the last time I sold a card lol…i just buy what I like and add it to the collection.

Spent about $200, quick turn around, and got a PSA 3. Cool. Wasn’t expecting a 10, or even a 5. Like I said, it was more about the experience. Here’s where it gets interesting…

I started to look at comps in the PSA 2-4 range just to get an idea, and came across another PSA 3. Let’s just say, I was shocked that mine was given the same grade. There’s significantly more edgewear, corners are cooked, and even a chunk out of the top back. My card is far from perfect, but is there really that much variance in the 3 range?

Now, again, I am not a condition stickler, but you guys tell me, is there something I might be missing? PSA definitely hit me with the confuse ray on this one. Has the modern skew really gotten this bad at PSA?

I honestly don’t plan on regrading, because I just can’t be bothered. However I would love to hear your feedback and thoughts.

Its all subjective, and the lower the grades go the more play they have to deem it worthy of such a grade. There isnt too much more to say. You could resubmit and get a 2, or 4 depending on the person grading it.

I don’t think there is anybody out there that can explain why a PSA 2-4 on pokemon cards if they don’t have water/crease damage. Yours has much nicer appeal though so congrats!

grades 2-5 are a black box of mystery honestly. Who knows what causes what

I thought about regrading, but not sure if it really matters at this point lol

Uhm, confuse ray isn’t a damage dealing move…

It is when you hurt yourself in confusion

Please submit again

Clearly you didnt include the obligatory 100 bucks in the sub for the grader to give you a 10

+1

If it’s sub 5 I just plan on worst case scenario. That way getting a 4 feels like pulling a chase card
