This whole thing is a disaster from PSA. They either saw they were getting bad press and adjusted someones grades retrospectively after noise on social media or they are outright scamming people with the buyback system.
Is it too much to ask for just one week without some sort of grading scandal or controversy?!
The industry has reached a size now where it needs an independant company to audit and regulate graders.
Well one could argue that if they did this on significantly more valuable / rare cards that it would be easier to detect and an even bigger controversy if detected.
While if they’re truly doing this at scale, buying back 9s of less valuable cards and then selling them as 10s is still very profitable albeit ridiculous and fraudulent.
But if they were truly doing this with nefarious intent as @eeveeteam mentioned why would they leave the cert # the same and not just make a new one when they print the 10 label?
Looks like I picked the wrong week to
quit sniffing glue
submit a lot of cards to psa

Are the scans of graded cards actually scans or composites of an earlier scan of the card and a generic PSA holder image?
They are actual scans. However, ever since scans became standard (late 6 certs), there have been instances of a scan showing one grade, only to change grades (and scan images) after the QC process.
Goddamn it Beckett PSA
I don’t understand how 134008908 can be a 10, top-buttom centering is realy bad, also left right. I might be bad in evaluating centering, but this looks far from 55-45
If grading companies haven’t been stopped in their tracks or slowed down in business because of say idk , grading known copies of fake cards and also other items with no kind of actual proof before grading. I can’t see this stopping psa.
Many people don’t want PSA to be the head honcho of the grading world and this obviously will hurt them but sorry to say I doubt this will have any kind of impact on the future of psa. Too many people have invested in them , will invest in them and they will continue to do so. Sucks but many people in this hobby don’t like change ![]()
this one is pretty crazy lol the back. btw I did a cert check and it turns out this particular cert is currently deactivated.
I actually have a decent explanation for the change in grades. back in the day - I submitted a very very similar sub with over 30 of the same card at once. Not a single 10. (This was when you could scrape the grade back in assembly. After that QA Checks happened and the grades would change. (I had 3 cards upgraded) - another sub was 6 cards downgraded. I presume that is what happened however the system did not update in time and the guy sold off the cards and the psa system had a delay. No reason for psa to upgrade like 8 cards (he sold 3)
This sounds like some Grade A bullshit to me. What are QA Checks for if they also run random spot checks AFTER your grades have been finalized and revealed to you? Is Nat saying that once your grades get revealed they can still be changed if PSA feels like it?
It seems like he’s putting together a bunch of things that PSA is known to do after returning cards (deactivating certs on misgrades or counterfeits) with a completely unrelated grade review and claiming that these now happen in some pre-shipping but post-grade-reveal QA check that’s never been mentioned before.
This reads to me that PSA changed grades as a result of social media pressure and is now trying to cover it up by claiming that it’s just a natural quirk of their process.
Ok … both the issue itself and the solution sound awful. Disappointing ![]()
People be posting they are stopping submissions to PSA. This doesn’t change a thing. They have like a 5 month backlog. By the time they burn through all that, nobody will care about this and they will still have a healthy backlog. If the turn around time gets down to 1-2 months, more people will submit and fill the gap.
Literally nothing to see here
This is horrendous for their image no matter how you look at it. On one hand, you can view it as PSA being completely unscrupulous, under grading cards, shooting low buy backs, then grading higher for an easy money/power pack deal hack, (less likely) or you can view it as PSA weakly giving in to anybody with a social media presence of a few thousand followers. (more likely)
We all knew the conflicts of interest would present themselves as soon as the buy back system launched, but it’s happening very quickly. After all, how could it be possible that PSA didn’t know the buy back had already been accepted, unless there was a tremendous technical issue, which would also be worthy of ridicule? Regardless of what actually happened, terrible look, and I hope the community keeps the pressure up to ensure this doesn’t happen again.
