In todays society with pokemon cards I wouldnt put anything past anyone. The dumb stuff we’ve seen throughout these past few years is crazy.
What is a PSA 6 worth? They give the card back right? So is PSA 6 + 20k = 45k?
Lol no shot. PSA 6 is about $500
That’s way off then. Damn, they need to cough up another 20k at least
At the end of the day, PSA is a company run by money grubbing boomers who do not give a flying turd about any of their customers. Zero white glove service, and they’re 100% aware of the moat/brand permanence they have in the space, meaning they can 100000% justify this service level and continue to milk people for their money.
Hopefully the OP on Reddit is able to get this sorted, but absolutely zero surprises that this happened.
I feel for you @bvotcg . This is up there on the list of collector nightmare situations.
Did you ask them how they came to their valuation of the card? I would hope they could provide something to back up their number. If you average the sales in your screenshot it does come out to about 20k.
I’m not defending them or saying that formula is fair representation of the current market value but I also wouldn’t expect them to compensate based solely on the most recent sale.
If you feel the offer is low, I would start by asking for a replacement PSA10 within a reasonable time frame (6 months to a year given how little this card transacts) instead of cash. It demonstrates you just want to be made whole and you are realistic about your expectations. If they don’t agree it gives you a little more leverage for the cash negotiation.
Best of luck.
if psa 10 sells for 45000 i wouldnt be surprised if psa 9 is 1000 bux ![]()
Could you make a new account?
If you had a new name, new address, new payment methods, maybe.
Name sure, address you could have roommates, payment method would be tough though. Maybe just open a new checking account and get a new card sent to you?
Not trynna be a contrarian I’m just thinking about how PSA would ever enforce that is all. Trynna get ma boi to be able to get lawyers and still submit to PSA later lol
Thinking about it though it is sad that PSA has such a vice grip that even after scandal after scandal the thought of not submitting to them in incomprehensible.
PSA has banned users before. They probably have a blacklist with names, addresses, credit card numbers, bank accounts, etc. that they will not accept a submission from.
People still grading with PSA in 2026?
Did you think this was helpful or
Penguinz0 made a video about this & it’s already gotten over 1 millions views in 1 day.
That’s pretty big in terms of negative publicity for PSA, I’m not sure where OP is at with PSA currently but it’s looking like it would of been much cheaper for PSA to make him whole in the first place.
PSA is used to screwing over their customers & suffering no consequences. But now grading Pokemon cards is way too popular for this to be swept under the rug like they’ve always done before.
You say that but i have no clue who that is so as long as psa does something about it, itll get looked over (already hearing rumors that they are working with OP but no clue if its true).
The anger at psa also feels a bit manipulated or at least not focused about this issue at all. Could be just influencers bandwagoning but most of the comments i see from people who are latching on to anger at psa right now are more upset about misunderstandings around psas upcharge procedure. Its probably valid to bring up but a lot of the complaints purposefully make it out to be something its not.
Bottom line, if everyone agrees that it doesnt help profits then it can be ignored and forgotten, regardless of how big pokemon is. Just look at the other grading companies and their scandals.
I can’t seem to understand the logic of these corporations. Maybe someone can enlighten me. How is going back and forth over 20 grand worth the terrible publicity for a multi billion dollar company? Op was obviously going to go to the public with this and chances are it would have went viral like it did. Why didn’t they just settle and avoid this risk?
Besides the reputational hit now everyone will think twice about reholdering so they will lose out on a fukton more money than just 20k
Completely. It’s even more stupider when you think about the good reputation and thrust they could have build upon acting the other way. In fact i’m thinking, in cases like this, they should even commit to compensate MORE than the market value of the card they damaged, taking into account that we are in a collector’s hobby and sentimental attachment is a part of it. That would be business done well, and they would gain even more money in global.
