Recently submitted a Shadowless No Error Damage Ninetales which got a PSA 8.5. Just trying to get a feel of what kind of price this might expect to fetch. Obviously very difficult due to scarcity. Have there been any known sales in the last while for a graded copy of this card(any grade). I see a PSA 8 up on eBay with asking price of 2k. Unsure if that seems within reasonable ballpark?
This card definitely gains its value due to scarcity. Before the Pokemon Go Hype, there was a PSA 9 listed on eBay for $1,200 or so??? (tough to remember). At the time, I offered 1k and was rejected for about 2 months. I refused to go higher and eventually the seller pulled the listing and has not relisted. This was around May or June of 2016.
The seller with the 2k listing is here on efour, so perhaps he can give more insight to offers received, demand etc.
*Disclosure - I have a stake in the Ninetales price.
It looked to be a 9 candidate when I first submitted it, but the grader noticed the error and don’t give it a grade, so that was a few months wait with eventual disappointment. This time it went through with the 8.5 which I was very happy about, but stillthink it could get a 9. My hesitation is due to it possibly not slipping through the cracks again, and having to resubmit through several cycles until when/ if manages to get a 9.
If you go the review route you can send the card as is and put a minimum 9 grade on the order. That way the worst case (heh!) scenario is that it will stay graded with the same grade.
This is the raw card before submission. I had seen some other PSA 9’s with some worse wear, but I figured it was mostly due to the bit of white on the back bottom left than dinged it down by .5
Can’t tell for sure but it appears there’s white dots on some corners and a couple on the edges? If so, I wouldn’t be happy receiving that after paying a 9 price.
PSA had a little few month period there where they were doling out 8.5’s like nobody’s business. I resubmitted about 20 of my 8.5’s from that period and not 1 received an 8.5 again. 18 of them went to a 9 and 2 went to an 8. All deservedly so IMO. I went from 1k+ cards submitted with only maybe a handful of 8.5’s to about 20% of my cards receiving 8.5’s. It was insane.
It was the first time and hopefully the last time I ever feel the need to crack and re-submit as I know many folks here have issues with that, but personally I had a big issue with all the 8.5’s showing up in a statistically impossible ratio for that period of 2 months or so.
From the photos I think you have a great shot at a 9 actually, but I could be missing things the photo doesn’t show.
