PrimetimePokemon has quit YouTube

I never watched his videos but honestly I think it’s less about YouTube and more about the type of content he was producing. The last time his name was relevant on e4 was from that book he published, which was basically universally disapproved by people here.

If you can’t adapt or stay relevant, this is what happens. It sounds like he had a great time while he was relevant but I watched his last video and it seemed like the interest just wasn’t there anymore and quitting was like a burden being lifted.

I remember seeing him advertise his book on his channel. It looked interesting, but I don’t know too much about it. May I ask why it was universally disapproved of?

Good dude, I wish him the very best in his next stage in life.

Definitely very sad. Between his channel and Leonhart’s got me back into the hobby. His older videos I still love watching for reference and excitement. Hoping his channel stays up as its a big part of Pokemon card history. Thanks for the memories PTP.

Wow. I forgot all about PrimetimePokemon. I’m a subscriber and I watched a lot of his content years back. I didn’t realize he was still making videos. I wish him the best either way, very nice guy.

I reread the original thread and maybe my wording was a bit harsh. In general though I think people here just aren’t a fan of pricing guides since they are quickly obsolete. I dont think the book did much outside of repeating info from bulbapedia and adding prices.

Ah yeah, that makes sense as to why it would not be very popular. I was more into his vintage openings. I definitely believe he tried hard to keep up with the times. I hope he continues to collect pokemon cards despite not making YouTube videos about them.

This ^

It’s all about being relevent.

It really is too bad! I liked that he hadn’t gone to the clickbait titles and such. His videos will be missed in the community but hopefully he stays in touch with his fans!

^Watch time. YouTubes goal is to keep people on the platform. No watch time on videos and YouTube will not promote and suggest them. His fan base came from the big ticket old school openings when they were still expensive but no where near now. it’s not possible to even consider basing a channel off of vintage openings unless you have a big way to recoup money. Ads will never cover that unless your pulling a hundreds of thousands of views on the video. It hurt to watch that video the guy put his heart and soul into what he loved. Everything everywhere is constantly becoming more and more competitive. It really doesn’t matter what you are in you always need to adapt and change with the times.

It’s a new decade and now more than ever people are realizing that you can not have all your eggs in one basket like the old days. You need to have multiple streams of income.

There were many issues. First, it was copyright infringement. It was clearly an unofficial fan made book and didn’t fill a need. However since the book was so negligible/irrelevant, Pokemon didn’t notice.

Also the book wasn’t useful. Prices were way off. The information was vague. Perhaps for beginners it had some use, even then, there are much better options. It was essentially a paraphrased printed bulbapedia, without the same level of detail and ability to search.

I remember seeing some of his videos years and years ago, but then discovered gemmintpokemon - and his authenticity and excitement and journey to complete goals for the hobby made his videos waaaaaayyyy more exciting and fun to watch. Primetime’s videos just seemed so boring in comparison. But I mean the guy had almost 500k subs so…what do I know.

It’ll be interesting how your channel will be doing in the long run. I’ve got the feeling you’ve got the business sense (and you mentioned someone giving you tipps) to become/stay revelant. Comparable to Leonhart.

In general big youtube channels are in my opinion good for the hobby and it’s sad to see one gone.

He inspired me with one of his videos to buy my 1st base set booster box in 2014ish and with that re-enter the hobby. I owe him a drink one day.

Thank you for the clarification. I am disappointed that he engaged in copyright infringement and that the product was overall unhelpful and not good.

Well that sucks, when I re-entered this hobby in ~2013 I used to watch a lot his WOTC booster box openings so I’d know what to expect from my own openings for certain boxes.

Not the most interesting person to follow but he was surely a trailblazer that Pokemon hobby needed to grow up. It’s a worrying development if more big channels quit for good because Youtube’s new policy.

Well he was one of my constants to watch pack openings. I liked the formulaic, no-nonsense approach and also his soothing voice. Sad to see him go but looks like this was the best for him.

I agree that it’s less about YouTube and more about his content, and idk anything about his books so can’t comment on that.
But it seems obvious to me why his views are low. He opens up new product which appeals to a younger demographic on average, but he has a very calm and sensible demeanor, which is more suited to older viewers. He also doesn’t do over the top thumbnails for kids. So why would kids watch him when there are much more energetic YouTubers such as UnlistedLeaf and Leonhart, and why would kids just getting in to the TCG click on his thumbnail over more decorative one’s in the first place? And why would old school collectors watch him when he doesn’t really open old stuff anymore? He basically doesn’t have a large enough target audience.

I’m a subscriber of his, and I think he produces high quality content and he’s a likeable person. But I really don’t care for watching a unified minds opening for example, so unfortunately I think his low views make a lot of sense.

So it’s not like HE changed. YouTube and it’s followers did?

@garyis2000 I think so. He could’ve maybe adapted his content, but that should never be forced and I respect someone who admits their time is over more than someone who’s willing to “fake it til they make it”.

Plus even if he was to adapt I assume it wouldn’t be easy. He said he wants to start a family soon, so it’s probably not the best time to start spending 1000’s of dollars on WOTC booster openings in the hopes to maybe bring back enough viewers like me to make it worthwhile. And I definitely can’t see him faking a super energetic personality for younger viewers either.
