Save your money, buy the singles you need, play the card game online, explore other TCGs or collectibles in a niche you enjoy.
Eventually the market will correct in some form, I believe (just a guy; idk anything)

They may not be going down across the board, it depends on what card, but they are stagnating a bit (especially vintage).
Money jumps around a lot in Pokemon as people try to pump the “next” thing.
Modern is trending up again (and has been for a couple weeks).
But it had a pretty large sell off before that.
Imo it WILL correct at some point, u already see the people who got into high end vintage during this recent boom trickle off Instagram after announcing they were god’s gift to pokemon/finance.

This advice cannot be understated. So many other cool card games out there not related to Pokemon that are still priced the same as 10-15 years ago, that have rarity aspects and are based on large IPs

If you like these collectibles then definitely, but I also feel like there is a reason why Pokémon is this expensive. It is just great.
As for OP´s question; just buy what you like, and if that´s too expensive, sell something, or buy something cheaper. Not everything is out of control.

Switch hobbies or switch collection goals. I’m personally moving to the latter and eyeing some mid era cards of my favorite pokeymans which I dismissed earlier, as well as cool art rares from modern sets.
still need to pick up that damn cradily ex, then I’m out of the vintage trenches for good

Step 1: get a job
Step 2: save money every paycheck and put it in a savings account or somewhere else that isnt tied to the debit card/primary checking account you use daily
Step 3: wait 3-6 months (hard!)
Step 4: buy any card in the hobby that isnt a trophy or anything psa 9 or higher
Step 5: repeat
Its really quite shrimple. I bought a “grail” of sorts doing exactly this! Stay tuned

saving money doesnt work because stuff gets jacked up in price faster than u can save
also u can make more than the 5% or w/e the give u doing practically anything else (and its more like <1% when the money printer is going brrr)
