Price Range

Hi everyone,

I have a question and I hope someone here can help me out. I’m looking to buy a first edition WOTC holo PSA 9 card, and while checking eBay’s sold listings, I noticed that the prices vary quite a bit — anywhere between $600 and $1000.

Is it normal for a card to have such a wide price range? Or am I missing something that can clarify this range?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Honestly depends on the card. I would expect this kind of behavior from a niche card with infrequent sales. Higher liquidity cards tend to have a more established price range

Thanks! That makes sense, yeah.
The strange thing is that this card doesn’t seem that niche. A few of them sell every month, so it’s not exactly rare on the market.
That’s why the wide price range surprises me a bit.

Which card is it? You don’t have to share if you don’t want to of course

It’s the Gengar fossil holo PSA 9 (first edition)

Ah makes sense because gengar cards have seen a sudden increase in attention with the current boom

I have noticed with the current boom, Gengar seems to be the fan favourite with a lot of the newer collectors, Whilst in my LGS a few weeks a go the cards that were selling more than other’s were Gengars.

Also a young co-worker (19 year old) has spoken to me about Pokémon recently and expressed interest in getting a PSA graded Gengar because they think it is cool. I don’t use social media but I would guess Gengar is popular on there.
