It’ll be interesting to see any differences in sentiment between these and the alpha/beta playtest/prototype cards. Hopefully someone unveils a machop holding a trophy amongst all these sheets.
Honestly, most of these things seem to come from the same source(s). I think if the right people would ask questions, a lot of details could be shared. Or at least, the information could have been easily gathered when these items were initially bought. They simply didn’t care about that.
The issue now is that TPC is keeping a close eye on the source, which makes it harder for them to share information.
But I believe it’s still possible to gather a lot more information if people connected with the source cared enough.
The release of all of these treasures at once is certainly overwhelming…can’t seem to keep up and don’t know what’s coming next. In the future I believe we will reference this time period as a time where museum pieces were readily available to the public. The #2 was sold within 1-2 hours of posting. Can’t wait to see what is next
Maybe to a cyrpto bro millionaire who joined the hobby a year ago. The No. 1/2/3 Pikas and Illustrator are cool, but like 95% of the hobby has no real attachment to them. At that price point I’d also rather just have a PSA 10 copy of the card lol
I agree that the “this is the greatest item in the hobby” is really overdone. But I think too many responses are overly cynical about these items. They are really interesting and easily museum-level pieces. One sold already so the price can’t be that far off. There’s an important distinction between “I wouldn’t pay that” and “nobody would pay that”.
People often use “historical significance” to justify why things are interesting/expensive but I always find it funny that “historical significance” only seems to apply to things someone is already interested in or owns.
@pfm Beat me to it! The advertisement style and/or lack of clarity on some of these items isn’t ideal, but the interest in trophy pikas and illustrators aren’t just crypto enthusiasts. I get constant messages from people who want either. I’ve probably had at least 20 people offer their organs for one!
Although I understand preferring the actual card. As someone who’s owned these cards forever, I don’t know what I would do with the factory sheet. Either way the appeal is real.
