So first, a bunch of caveats: Pokecolor founder says in the IG that source can’t be disclosed right now so we have no info on provenance, it’s a test print, and there are no detailed scans/or any other info on these cards that I’m aware of other than these posts… Not trying to hype this up as the new new first Charizard rookie card or anything like that - just sharing here in case anyone knows more and since, if real, it’s an interesting bit of history for folks interested in No Rarity cards.
Assuming it’s a real test, what’s neat and may suggest it pre-dating NR prints is that the bottom flavor text box matches that of Machoke (that’s not something you see in NR prints - you just see the “Kairiki” description box text error underneath the art box). That bottom flavor text box change looks like it gets corrected in the No Rarity prints.
Some images screenshotted from the IG posts:
Test print also has a different holo pattern and blank back:
There’s only one source for this sort of stuff and that source has continued moving items like these mockups. I assume a lot of it will end up in China.
This is the Charizard that is pictured in the original advertisement for the TCG. The unique holo pattern matches the one he has posted in a previous video: https://www.instagram.com/p/DQ3jhK3iavA/
I still remember prototype sellers proclaiming they’ve seen the evidence and were convinced by it. It was also just trust me bro. Then the truth came out and they wiped their IG clean of all prototype stuff.
Card looks wild with no coating on the back and the front looking minty. I feel like the holo patterns don’t exactly match the magazine photos. In the magazine pattern you see circle cutouts accompanied by a line, the physical card is much more random.
It makes sense to drop it now after the big auction breaking records. If it is real does it beat the Illustrator?
My spidey senses are tingling so hard. All true prototypes are ruined imo. The incentive for parties with real ones to fake / copy them are too high. It’s not worth the risk given the track record.
Did not mean to bring back bad prototype memories , but I get it haha. I just think the flavor text box changes/mistakes are neat and maybe shines some light into some of the early NR text errors on the Charizard (I also never noticed that the poster @HumanForScale posted earlier had the same flavor text error or diff holo pattern either).
