Inspired by @Mewthree 's recent poll and @koala 's MEGA thread, I wanted to make a poll to see E4’s opinion on the new full arts.
Below is a gallery of all the mega ex full arts that have a previous counterpart. The XY 5ban Graphics ones are on the left and the new MEGA (5ban Graphics & takuyoa) ones are on the right.
I like them both. The old ones are very unique with the inverse language writing on them, and it’s definitely grown on me over time, especially since we haven’t gotten anything similar since. I love the new styles and the way they’re fitting in the non-Mega form in the background. The Mega SARs are definitely my favorites overall, but I’m very happy with even the regular Mega full arts in this era.
I have come to enjoy them both. I think getting used to the old one took some time but I feel there is a charm to them. The new ones do look modern and more vibrant but I do not rate them much higher over the previous versions. therefor they both are amazing to me.
I thought the attack name in Jp/Eng was neat on XY, and I dislike monochrome pokemon repeated in the background on the current ones. However I do like these more than V/Vmax/Vstar, possibly tied with ex.
I think xy Megas had more character in them, and the floating text was distinctive, even memorable I would say.
The new ones in my opinion are fine, but feel like a bland homage, nothing more than a generic looking modern era card. This is just my taste speaking, it’s 100% a personal choice.
The votes are old, new, equally awful, and equally amazing. What about ambivalent? Both are “meh” to me. Not bad but also not good. Comparing them, I have no strong preference either.
My views are definitely skewed since I started collecting again during SWSH and I feel others who collected during that era will generally be more fond of them since at one point they were the chase cards.
I find them all to be awful, although the new iteration is slightly less bad.
