Spotted these old tins at Costco Canada today for $36.99 CAD for 3 tins. They don’t look like repacks from MJ Holdings. Looks straight from Pokemon with little paper box thingy that holds all 3 tins together.
These are most likely just going to be a Christmas item. But if it sells well, I wonder if Pokemon will start selling booster boxes at below wholesale price… say $60 a box if Costco will carry a pallet in each of its warehouses.
Those have been around for a couple months or so now. I don’t think I’d speculate on any more items yet, especially something as specific as booster boxes at a certain price, without TPCi/Costco establishing a trend in selling these products.
I had a case study about Costco when I was at school. Very interesting, here’s the thing - Typically their deals in their locations just happen to be from any random sellers who are trying to offload a lot of product quickly. Think of them like the ultimate liquidation center. They buy their stock for literal pennies and try and flip it. We saw in our case they purchased jewelry, popcorn machines and kitchen gadgets (the three examples). The kitchen gadgets were those weird ones you think you’ll use but never use at all - Think like a strawberry slicer, Eggies or even a mini fondue set. They are encouraged by head office to constantly have new exciting products to bring consumers in. Since their model is a subscription base to enter their store, they need new revolving products at all times otherwise consumers may feel they aren’t getting their “monies worth”. That being said, we also noted that most of these deals were typically one-offs. Essentially vendors trying to offload their product quickly to re-invest their capital into more profitable ventures. I am not holding my breath that there is some magical deal struck between TPCi and Costco, but if there is… That would be a game changer for all the small mom-pop stores in the industry.
