When are you picking me up
This meme is almost aged out. Give it another couple of years. A banana is now 3 dollars at Starbucks in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I learned this the hard way last year when swiping first without looking.
Damn, the poors dare to speak these days
Can I come too? Iāll put out for a $1k dinner.
Pokemon has achieved this w/o serials
Pretty cool to see the highest end of Pokemon catching up with and/or on par with the highest end of sports cards/comics etc which have been around for much longer.
Its kind of surreal looking through my Beckett price guides from 2000 and seeing the prices today. Whether you think the card was overpriced or shouldāve gone higher its hard to deny how far Pokemon has come in such a short period of time.
well would you rather have a card with your favorite fire breathing lizard from your childhood on it or some random sports bro who might break their leg or secretly be a pedo ![]()
Brotha I know things are rough out there, but where and what on earth are you eating
Delicious but none of that food looks like its worth $1000.
I agree. Food prices snuck up on all of us. A banana isnāt 10 cents any more its 2 bucks. Which is why I was saying the average normie collector likely spends way more than $1,000 on cards in a year now
Iām sorry guys and gals⦠but this result is just obscene!
Comics enjoy the same luxury and have a massive head start with the collector base. I donāt think Pokemonās success is as simple as that.
the quality of stories in those marvel properties is pretty subpar imo⦠most anime will blow them outta the water ![]()
Who said anything about marvel? ![]()
Is this a NYC thing? Supermarkets here have baskets of them free for kids to take
A banana in NYC is about 50 cents rn
If you go to the Bronx or Chinatown or find the right street fruit stand, you can get one for like 50 cents but if you just pop into something like Starbucks or your local cafe theyāre always 1-2 bucks. Letās not all get hung up on banana prices for the sake of arguing. ![]()
Although I admit I am obviously wrong, I value other cards more than the Illustrator. If i had no idea of the social media, marketing, and other factors contributing to the value of this card, I would not have put the -PSA 9- PSA 10 Illustrator at number 1. If I were just looking at factors that I value most highly, like rarity, context of release and condition, I would have the 1997 1st place tournament trophy pikachu PSA 10 as the most valuable card. I would even value something like a SNAP Pikachu equal to the Illustrator, but again, obviously I have a different take on value than the people actually spending this kind of money.
I would be interested to know if there are other people who personally would value another card higher?
