Hello everyone! I’ve heard that Pokémon stuff in Hungary is poorly documented so I thought I’d share what I know and I’d love to hear your info or sharing about everything. Be it VHS or Tazo or stickers or TCG or anything else.
There is a card that was made in Hungary, but I don’t know what it was for. It could be some kind of chewing action.
Pokémon: The First Movie was released in Hungary on November 9, 2000. Tickets for the movie were available to win in Junior magazine.
After the theatrical release, the film was released on VHS tape. The tape contained a prize ticket for a poster of the film.
Pokemon 2: The Power of One was released in Hungarian cinemas on April 5, 2001. Once again, you can win tickets to the film in Junior magazine.
The movie had a promotion where you got a Pokémon Tazo as a gift when you watched the movie. The second movie was also released on VHS. Unfortunately, the image is scribbled over.
You could win the soundtrack to Pokemon 2: The Power of One on cassette and CD in Junior magazine if you answered the question correctly. I’d be curious to see if anyone can do this.
The Pokemon Mewtwo Returns movie was also released in Hungary on VHS and DVD. They say it had a strange dubbing. The lucky ones received a Warner gift package from Junior magazine.
Cool info, thanks for sharing all this from your home country. ![]()

I did have to use google translate on the image first, though. Since I don’t speak a word Hungarian. ![]()
The only thing I know regarding Pokémon & Hungary, is that there is a Pokémon TCG factory located in Hungary these days. Some European booster packs even mention this. Here for example a German booster pack from 2022 mentioning it (Ungarn is German for Hungary):
Greetz,
Quuador
Well, I didn’t know there was a factory here. But a few years ago, TCG tournaments started in different regions.
I’m happy to let others see that we love Pokémon in Hungary just as much as anywhere else. ![]()
The third movie was not released in Hungary, but it was broadcast in its entirety on HBO. Later it was also broadcast on RTL Klub.
Those who recorded it on VHS tape long ago are lucky.
There used to be something called RTL Filmklub where you could buy a lot of things. It was the same with the Big Pokémon DVD (Nagy Pokémon DVD), which contained the first ten episodes of the series. It was quite expensive, but then the price dropped.
Such a cool topic and all the stuff you collected!
Besides the “Minta” Wartortle card from the other discussion I also have some of those weird printed cards. (I think my brother used to get them in some toy store. ) All of them were pictures taken from Pokemon movies.
There were also the dunkin chewingum stuff (tatoos, stickers and some tazo looking thing that are not tazos). I will take some photos of those later.
I’m really excited to see this because I still don’t know what kind of card this is. But let’s wait and see what else is out there.
If you already have Junior magazines, could you scan them? It’s okay if it’s a picture of something you already have.
There used to be a Cora hypermarket and luckily a catalog remains and it has Pokémon stuff in it. The catalog was from November to December 2000. I hope there will be some interesting stuff in it.
This thread is so fascinating. I love seeing this Pokemon merchandise from a region I hadn’t seen before.
There were strips on the bags of chips that advertised Pokémon Tazo. There were a few printed versions in the newspaper.
