Introduction
The V-Union Pikachu is a 4-card set that features artwork by 25 different illustrators and showcases a diverse representation of styles and interpretations of Pikachu. The artists chosen on this collaboration include veterans that been illustrating Pokemon cards since 1996 to new up-and-coming artists.
Below, I have organized the 25 artists chronologically by the year they started illustrating. To showcase their unique styles, I have included other Pikachu cards they have drawn across the years (where applicable). Each artist also gave a blurb about their contribution to this piece, which is also included. Thanks to @quuador for the blurbs.
Atsuko Nishida - 西田敦子
Designed Pikachu, worked on the original Red/Green games
25th anniversary! It happened in no time. I hope you will continue to love Pikachu for a long time! When I draw an illustration of a Pokémon card, I wish I could show the world in which Pokémon lives and the individuality of Pokémon. I will continue to do my best with such Pokémon! I am very proud that my illustration was placed in the centre of so many Pikachus in the Pikachu V-UNION. When I started working as an illustrator on Pokémon cards, I never even imagined the 25th anniversary. I’ve been involved in many products so far, and I’m also impressed by the fact that I’ve drawn almost all the cards and packaging that appear in promotions for TAG TEAM. This is the first time I’ve drawn Pikachu as a Pokémon card, so I’m honoured to be asked to take part in this project. "What should I do with the pose?”, I thought. So I asked son "Try a cute pose that Pikachu would do!”, and asked his siblings to pose one by one, and this pose of my eldest son, who is in junior high school, was adopted. It is a joint creation of parent and child Pikachu!

Kouichi Ooyama - 大山 功一

This time, I was told about the illustration of Pikachu V-UNION, so I drew it based on the “Ooyama’s Pikachu” that I drew a long time ago. Originally, I was making game rules for Pokémon card games, but by drawing “Ooyama’s Pikachu”, I was later asked for a card illustration (though that was a bonus play card). Also, I’m not a professional painter, so it’s awkward to be an illustrator (laughs).

今回、ピカチュウV-UNIONのイラストの話をいただいたので、昔自分が描いた「オーヤマのピカチュウ」を元に描きました。僕は、元々はポケモンカードゲームのゲームルールを作っていたんですが、「オーヤマのピカチュウ」を描いた事で、後にカードイラストを頼まれるようになったんです（あれはオマケの遊びカードでしたが）。なので、絵描きが本職ではないので、イラストレーターと言うのはおこがましいんですけどね（笑）

Pikachu has been in the center for a long time. There must be tremendous pressure, tiredness, and unimaginable things. However, it continues to be as usual today, without making me feel any dust. I drew that momentum with Pikachu V-UNION. How do Pokémon live? Is it fun, spicy, or sad? However, I want to draw a more straightforward inner expression, instead of the face shown on the front. I always have that feeling when I draw illustrations.

Celebration - Pokémon 25th Anniversary!! I was honored and nervous to be selected as one of the artists in charge of Pikachu V-UNION this time. Due to the limited space, I ended up with a Pikachu who is younger than usual (laughs). Looking back on my past work, I was heading to the official Pokémon Card autograph session in Taiwan. The illustration of Incineroar (SD), who was inspired by the safety video “Kabuki” that I watched in Taiwan and did a rough sketch on while on a business trip, is memorable.

The illustration of Pikachu V-UNION fully expresses the joy of the 25th anniversary! It’s like that. I think that the appeal of Pokémon cards is the variety of individuality and ideas of illustrators which are fun to look at. You can see various new scenery around the world of Pokémon, so it’s always fun to discover.

Pikachu has a deep cuteness that is usually accepted, no matter how you draw it, and this time Pikachu V-UNION was drawn without much hesitation, considering the freedom of illustrations where Pikachu of various styles gather… When I make artworks, I always try to give the Pokémon a presence, but I also think about making the most of the simple design part that is good for Pokémon.

ピカチュウはどう描いても大抵受け止めてもらえる懐の深い可愛さがあり、また今回のピカチュウV-UNIONは色々な画風のピカチュウが集合するイラストという自由さも踏まえて、あまり気負わず描かせて頂きました。制作の際はいつも、ポケモンに存在感が出るよう意識していますが、ポケモンの良さであるシンプルなデザイン部分も同時に活かす事を考えつつ描いています。

Pikachu always gives us energy. Thank you for 25 years of Pikachu! I drew it with a lively and fun image! Looking back on the cards I was in charge with so far, the three “Sightseer” in the “Sun & Moon” series are series are the ones that stand out the most: the SR card, of course, but I also really like the two cards that have an interesting twist: a selfie-style shot and a shot of him looking at it from a third person’s perspective.

Pikachu V-UNION is a card that is packed with the charm of Pokémon cards, with everyone being a little different, even if they are the same Pikachu! Of all the cards I’ve worked on, I’m particularly attached to Misdreavus. I had drawn Pokémon card competition posters and deck shields as part of my work on Pokémon games and merchandise, but I had never drawn the cards themselves, so I was extremely happy when I was offered the chance.

Pikachu V-UNION has Pikachu of various illustrators, so I tried to make mine a lively Pikachu suitable for a lively piece! I wanted to express the fluffy texture of Pikachu, so I was conscious of the softness of the line drawing. When I draw an illustration of a Pokémon card, I think about how the Pokémon would actually exists and what it looks like. I’m drawing it with the hope that it will be an illustration that people will like as a single picture.

For this Pikachu, I tried to express the feeling of wanting to touch the cheeks. I valued the respect for Pokémon cards and drew them in a fun and personal way! When drawing, I try to make the picture more enjoyable to imagine when I pick it up. For example, the Glameow I drew in the past, combined with the trick name “Carefree Cat”, makes it look like one page of a picture book and it’s my favorite. The appeal of Pokémon is that you can enjoy not only battles, but also illustrations of various scenes!

The journey of Pikachu that we have walked together for 25 years. Not only is it fun and beautiful, but it also carries many conflicts and battles. But even if it gets hurt, it’ll stand up many times and scatters beautiful thunder flowers. I drew it with such thoughts in mind. The Pokémon drawn on the cards have a unique story, and even after the passage of time, they do not fade and carve daily memories there. The commemorative file card that my parents bought in the past, still makes me smile and makes me feel attractive to its beautiful brilliance.

I was honored and happy to be able to draw Pikachu with all the wonderful people!? While drawing I was thinking that Pikachu should be happy and happy to see its surroundings, I was honestly nervous and put the Pikachu stuffed animal beside me, saying, “Let’s do our best together, Pikachu…!”. Speaking of tension, I remember drawing the “Cheryl” SR card that I drew for the first time as a job while worrying, and was thrilled on the release date (and I still am every time).

I was happy to be able to participate in the illustration of the 25th anniversary card, and I enjoyed drawing it. I drew some rough Pikachu sketches I could think of. But in the end, I choose the first one I drew, because I wanted to draw an innocent and cheerful appearance of Pikachu. Looking back on the past, my illustration of Gastly (S1W) is also impressive. This is the first card I was in charge of. I like the appearance of its tongue.
