Pets thread!

I decided to see who the best friends were behind the name. Post your pets and a little bit about them and how you met them:

Boodles: Stray tabby that I stumbled upon next to the vending machine in my complex, and ended up following me home. I’ve loved him ever since, even though he is literally (and I mean literally) the most talkative cat my friends have met.

Colby (Wan Kenobi, as my father calls him) A mut that I found at the shelter. Originally looking at a different dog I had wandered off and found a small puppy that ended up growling and biting me but next to him, oh it was the sweetest and wettest nose you ever saw peaking through the bars. As I began to pet him he cried and peed with joy; that aside, needless to say we’ve had him ever since.

Not pictured, Cooper: Cooper is what we call our special ed dog, as he wasn’t adopted because he was far too afraid of everyone. My mother, however saw I’ll pass this and saw a puppy that just wanted to be loved.

I’m going to pick up my 8 week old puppy, Podrick (guess where that name is from), in October. He’s a little over 1 week old and is a pure bred corgi. any tips on social interactions, potty training, separation anxiety will be helpful!

4 rescue rabbits.

Marshmallow: The 1st my wife got from of her co-worker’s daughter. It is hard to find pet sitters for rabbits.

Pumpkin: The co-worker’s younger daughter had her. Pumpkin was really overweight. Wouldn’t eat for us. Would just sit. It was a hard struggle, but she lost the weight, eats plenty of hay, gets into tons of mischief.

Bentley: Got him from somebody my wife’s hairdresser knows. The lady took in 2 children and their pet rabbit. The children’s father came for them, but didn’t want the rabbit. The lady kept him for a while, but needed him out the house. He seemed depressed, when we got him. We put him with Marshmallow. Marshmallow is such a happy bunny.

Cinnamon: Got him from the humane society. When we looked at him, he was really stressed out by all the noises there. We get hay in 25 pound boxes and store on a shelf. He finds away onto the shelf and jumps into the open box.

I have 2 gerbils  Both are female, and they are a mom and a daughter. I would like to have a cat but my rent agreement says no pets (cats or dogs) so rodents are the way to go. I actually got them from my cousins who have adopted many gerbils plus they accidentally had a female and a male in the same terrarium so you know the result… My uncle asked if I wanted to have some gerbils as they have so many and of course I did!

Here is Lilli and she is the mom. As you can probably see from her visual, she is an old lady already. I’m not sure how old, but my cousins think she is probably 4 years old now. She doesn’t really jump or climb anymore and she is bit of a fatty too but she still has lots of energy and is doing well. She loves to eat and is bit silly sometimes but I love her. She might seem a bit slow but once I let her run around the apartment, she goes fast and loves to run around when she is free  She doesn’t know how to get out of the terrarium like her daughter but I take her away on daily basis and pet her alot and let her run and explore.

And here is the daughter, Sirius. She is very energetic and curious, but also intelligent. I don’t know how old is she, but my guess is 2 years old. When I put my hand into the terrarium, she comes to my hand and climbs my arm and I let her run around my arms and let her go sit on my shoulders and everything. I like the fact that she trusts me, as when she comes down from my shoulder I put my other hand there so she can land on it. But oh boy is she crazy about getting away from the terrarium. If the cover is open, she is able to jump from the terrarium to the edge and get out (and she knows always when the terrarium is open. Sometimes she escapes while I’m changing their water or putting more food). She knows how to get away even if the cover is on as it leaves the corners open, so I’ve had to block them. I’ve seen her even climbing the water bottle trying to get out! She likes to run around the house just like her mom but she is a bit too curious and puts herself anywhere she fits, so I need to keep an eye on her non stop.

This is my furry baby Emilie. I adopted her from a cat shelter. Her first owner kept her and her sister in a bird cage and never let them out, the thing was gross and dirty and they didn’t even have a litter box in there. They barely got any contact with people. And they were like this for 3 whole years…

The shelter was troubled about what to do with her since her sister got adopted quite quickly and was really sociable, but Emilie was very shy and skittish, and would hit and slash at people that would try to pet her and get angry. She was not tame enough for a normal family but couldn’t be put outside since she had never had any semblance of a normal life both inside and outside.

I decided I wanted to take her in and give her a good home and make sure she has a happy relaxed life  she has improved so much since then and will lay on my desk in front of me whenever I do anything on the laptop. She’s totally ok with me petting her now and loves to be brushed :3 she’s family now and I love her to death  She’s also a bit more open to other people now and won’t hide away from anyone that enters my flat, but comes up to snif them curiously (she’s a bit iffy with strangers touching her still though).

The domestic cat is believed to have evolved from the Near Eastern wildcat, whose range covers vast portions of the Middle East westward to the Atlantic coast of Africa. Between 70,000 and 100,000 years ago the animal gave rise to the genetic lineage that eventually produced all domesticated cats, having diverged from the Near Eastern wildcat around 8,000 BC in the Middle East.

The felids are a rapidly evolving family of mammals that share a common ancestor only 10–15 million years ago and include lions, tigers, cougars and many others. Within this family, domestic cats (Felis catus) are part of the genus Felis, which is a group of small cats containing about seven species (depending upon classification scheme).] Members of thechat genus are found worldwide and include the jungle cat (Felis chaus) of southeast Asia, European wildcat (F. silvestris silvestris), African wildcat (F. s. lybica), the Chinese mountain cat (F. bieti), and the Arabian sand cat (F. margarita), among others.
