@basesetwill, soooo, you posted this to target the “investors” on here who don’t read these subject titles because they only care about the money?
In my opinion, you posted this purely to cause controversy. I am not a fan of your type of collectors

This made me lol! I appreciate that!
I want cards
but I need cash to buy cards
So cash is important
So I buy multiple UPC
One can trade UPC for more cash than originally paid
Eventually I can buy cards
*laughs in masterplan*
A word is but a signpost
The menu is not the food
I like cards.
*laughs in spirituality*
@basesetwill , Who’s ruining the hobby more? You who has only ever sold one card or others who have sold many cards? How could I have built a collection from you or people like you?
You are more similar to me than you think you are you are practically famous for your reluctance to sell cards from your personal collection. And when you do, it’s only to help out the hobby and push it forwards. It’s the same for smpratte…. He only sells cards he has doubles of. If I was lucky enough to have doubles of my favourite cards, things would likely be different in my own head.
I think parts of my initial message have just been confused by people. I don’t think people selling cards is bad at all: I even loved watching Logan Paul do his live box break. I like seeing smpratte selling cards that are incredible. Just, I like seeing it all come from a positive place Maybe the thing I was wrong about is that there are less people who are unenthusiastic about these cards than I thought there were.
And lots of people on here took the post as me criticising them… when they weren’t the type of people I was referring to at all.
do I think it’s a shame when someone says “I’m only in it for the money and why would I care about cardboard otherwise”? Yes. But that’s just my personal opinion.
japanime:
Do you have any of the tiny Japanese beer cans? They hold the equivalent of a shot glass full of beer, and are simultaneously amazing and infuriating (if you’re trying to get a buzz).
I do not! They sound adorable. Here are a few of my favorite items (Meowth for scale).
The backpack is zippered and fully functional.
The space item is a sealed deck of mini playing poker cards.
Thanks for perfectly proving that collecting something with no monetary value can be extremely fun and rewarding
Berndos:
See this is why I’ve been gatekeeping Tesla stock for the past 4 years. If you actually enjoy Tesla stock, I’d be fine, but most people aren’t really passionate about it and I hate that.
Why do you think people buy Tesla stock?
Because Tesla is the shit.

“Its ok because you only sell stuff you have doubles of” - These guys buy hundreds of the same card so they can sell their “doubles”…

But its funny seeing all of these confirmations when deep down, we all really know we do it for the lulz.
Collecting without monetary values in it actually kills the hobby faster.
Is anybody really “in Pokemon for the money?”
If anything, every dollar I put into Pocket Monsters is one less dollar I have in Bitcoin.
Im still trying to figure out who all these evil Pokemon economists are who are in it for the cash.

People that are not collectors, are 40 years old, live in parents basement, and wear grey sweatpants… these are the people only in it for the money.
fourthstartcg:
All the other stuff about how “I don’t care if Pokemon goes to zero,” as has been pointed out earlier, is just ignorance of the dynamics of collecting. Nobody collects things that are worthless. Show me one serious, sustaining community where the highest valued asset is 50 cents. It doesn’t exist. Why? Because value and interest are mutually reinforcing. As much as we all like to claim “I don’t care if Pokemon goes to zero” we all do care and if it did we would not be a part of the hobby anymore.
I collect the smallest officially manufactured versions of everyday items. Smaller than trial size, usually industry samples or hotel room toiletries. I have some canned foods that are only a 0.5oz can, some ultra small hot sauce containers essentially single use, very small erasers… I will take more pics tomorrow.
lol. I LOVED 4stars comment until he got to that part too. I have three facilities that house all my collections and honestly 90% hold no true value. Many of those are still incomplete sets and I add to them all the time…often for .50;)

It seems like an unjustifiable opportunity cost to tie up money in Pokemon products if they don’t bring some degree of fulfillment or happiness…
But then again, a lot of things are hard to understand

Meh, not so hard to explain given the amount of multi millionaires here. The problem is that people don’t understand the difference between themselves and those people, which would be hard to explain if humans weren’t habitually stupid.

How DARE you.
Are there really many people only in it for the money now? What are these guys even flipping at this point?
bruh

Wouldn’t opportunity cost apply even more so as net worth increases?

Please tell me you are being sarcastic. (Sorry, it’s sometimes difficult to tell on a forum when a post is sarcasm.)
