So as the titles states, I recently opened up a case on PayPal, against Buyee. Two months ago I purchased a card where the seller blatantly and cleverly hid damage. It even went through CGC at the National, where they highlighted that the card had been tampered with, via coloring of the borders.
Due to being in multiple trips within the last two months, I finally just now had the time to sit and open a PayPal Case. Unfortunately, within minutes, they denied my case in favor of the seller… purely based on the fact that I opened a case two months after the fact.
So the questions stands, what’s next? Do I open an appeal on it? If so does anyone have any advice?
If I do a chargeback on my credit card, what’s the best way of going about it so I actually get my money back?
Not that I’ve any xp in this situation (thankfully) but if I’m right in saying (and surely will be corrected if I’m wrong) but if you get a chargeback from your bank from buyee, they will then ban you from purchasing.
Would a chargeback put you in hot waters with PayPal? I might recommend appealing the decision before going full nuclear and jeopardizing your relationship with Buyee and PayPal.
Get on the phone with PayPal and explain the details. If there is an option to upload photos, post cgc’s assessment. That way they can see a third party company identified the damage, and it will also explain why it took time.
If you get the right person they should at least be able to get the ball rolling if it’s under the umbrella still to open a claim. The only other issue I could see if the value exceeds their protection. I vaguely remember that being a thing years ago when I still regularly used PayPal, but maybe it’s not an issue.
I would agree with the Scotts. Talking to a human and presenting evidence to them might help to expedite an appeal. PayPal has an automated system through their Resolution Center, but you’ll want to speak with someone first, especially if it was a significant sum of money.
I would recommend pulling together the following documents:
Images of the listing
CGC’s appraisal
A timeline of events including: the purchase date, the date you received a third party’s opinion, and the date of your first open case
Also, PayPal requires an appeal within 10 days.
The Appeal button will only be available for 10 days after your case closes.
I would agree. Try every way possible (calling, etc.) to get to someone. However, I would not get too hopeful. I unfortunatelly also have had this problem (well, not this exact problem, but a denied PayPal case) and trying to get something done with large organisations is really stressful and does not often go in your direction. At some point you just have to say, bad luck (if there aren´t any lessons to be learned).
This!
I’ve had to deal with PayPal a lot over the past year, and I found that calling them directly was always the best option. Don’t give up if one agent says they can’t help you. Sometimes, I had to call 5–10 times before finding an agent who was willing or knowledgeable enough to assist me.
First rep I called was of no help. Apprently a new user agreement was sent out a couple months ago, where if you’re trying to open a case for “Item Not As Described”, after 30 days, the seller automatically has the case win in their favor. No matter what the reason is, even if you were blantantly scammed.
The second rep I spoke with (Who I believe was based in the US) actually made an effort to try and help my situation. She also spoke about the new user agreement, but actually took in what I had to say and sent a request in for an appeal with their Case Team. She said there was no promises, and highly encouraged me to talk to my credit card company, if my appeal is denied.
CC is always a great backup and charging back on a PayPal purchases with a CC will not do anything to your PayPal account unless your opening several each month.
Called out to my credit card company a couple weeks ago and filled them in on what happened. They pretty much sided with me after one phone call and refunded me the money.
Sucks that Buyee wouldn’t help me out, even with a blantant scam, but oh well. Time to make a new account.
