Opinions on regrade... which company

I believe PSA just updated their TOS so that they can now upcharge up to $500 automatically without notifying the submitter. I don’t know of it happening to anyone as of now, but it is in their terms to do so

Send it to cgc through fanatics for $9 and 1 day turnaround and hope for pristine :stuck_out_tongue:

But in all seriousness you should probably resub to psa cause you need the rush!

Keep in mind that this community leans toward conservative, smart money plays, and away from gambling/risky behaviour.

If it were me, I’d learn to love it as a 9 and pocket the money I would spend on regrading for the PSA 10 for my future collection.

Good to know. It did seem too good to be true

I’ll let my intrusive thoughts win: send it into PSA and go for a 10.

Cheers :beers:

Personally idk if this would 9.5, but it may CGC 10.

BGS are super tough on corners and edges.

Make sure the surface is absolutely clean AF though.

In my experience from PSA to BGS you need to crack to get the upgrade, so there is always a risk to that.

But if you think it’ll upgrade, and you can optimize value that way - it’s worth the shot!

Part of the fun of this hobby for me is finding clean copies and grading / regrading.

When cracking, I use a specific method that generally lessens the risk of making a mistake.

I think you’re a chill guy pokebeast, I can see you love your Charizard collection.

I also think that you really want a PSA10 and wouldn’t be truly satisfied by other options like cgc/bgs.
So, I would try to resubmit once for peace of mind, and see how it goes: then accept whatever outcome you’ll get.

If it scores again 9 you can’t deny a certain consistency there, and I think in long run you’re going to appreciate your minty minty Charizard even more.

You could always send to cgc still in the psa slab for a bump. Worst case they send it back in a cgc 9 slab but saves you from being the one to crack it.

Ive successfully crossed psa 9s in slab to cgc 9.5 and cgc 10s before.

Also i believe pallet town pokemon has a walk into cgc service that will allow you to only slab it with an upgrade possibly even a min grade. So you can avoid it turning into a cgc 9.

I wasn’t kidding

I’m not a fan of CGC so I would go with BGS. They won’t upcharge you either. I would be happy with a 9.5 and a nice gold label. I can understand the itch for a more deserving grade, but CGC comes off as the poor man’s 10. I don’t respect them.

This is very confusing to me since they were doing non cards for a long time. I see this take often and chock it up to mostly inertia?

CGC would have been a fine choice.

Most efour are PSA fangirls so that poll is going to be super biased.

PSA will likely not give this a 10.

You’ll get a better opportunity for a grade bump at BGS or CGC.

Ps. My theory is in 10 years most people won’t care what 10 grade they buy - CGC 10s are ‘cheap’ now if you can get a cleaner copy - lots of opportunity there. Many high end collectors I know are going there now.

Sadly BGS still is behind the curve with the people only like 10s thing.

It’s not a secret that an opinion poll will be biased, and while he could have asked anywhere he did ask for E4’s opinion…

Since I voted to re-sub with PSA, here is why I said it:

  • PSA 10 carries a bigger premium (with the exception of the inconsistent coin-flip BGS black label)
  • By the OPs own admission, he collects PSA slabs, so it makes sense to remain consistent if that is what he wants. If it eats at him enough to make this thread and it won’t break the bank I think the re-sub is worth it.
  • Just a personal gripe, but half grades like a 9.5 annoy me, and I can’t help but view a “Gem Mint 10” from CGC as a PSA 9 or previous CGC 9.5. Up to OP if he feels the same way or not.

This entire hobby prefers PSA so it’s unsurprising that people here will also skew that way. It’s not a bias specific to this community. Whether it will stay that way in 10 years is entirely speculation.

In a bubble the obvious answer is send back to PSA indefinitely until it gets a 10, if it ever does.

The big problem is that it’s $150 + $40 shipping back and forth to resub, you have to crack and risk damage and risk transit loss and PSA employee damage, and there is still a super low chance of a 10.

I would have accepted in 9 or sent to cgc crossover in-case but people have more guts with $5000 than I do clearly lol

Ironically I actually agree and would likely just keep it as a PSA 9 (if this was my card). If he hadn’t already made it clear that he intended to re-sub in hopes of a higher grade then my response would have been this. But if his heart is set on re-subbing and it’s a question of which place to send it to, I like the PSA route.
