Anyone here collect (for personal or investment) WOTC 1st edition PSA 9 common and uncommon cards? I know not a lot of people get them graded since it’s usually not worth the grading cost to risk a PSA 8 (or 9 in many instances) or lower, but many of these cards can be picked up for the cost of grading ($15-30 usually depending on the popularity of said pokemon) with the exception of Base 1st.
I wonder if eventually all PSA 10’s in general will be so pricey or unobtainable for most collectors that they will find some comfort in collecting cheap but mint PSA 9 slabs of their favorite older pokemon.
Thoughts? Anyone here collect or sell what I’m mentioning?
Outside of Base 1st edition, I don’t think there’s many WOTC C/UC cards worth grading. Maybe some of the eeveelutions from Neo Destiny but none others spring to mind.
My advice would just be to enjoy the lovely C/UC arts in a binder.
The problem with commons and uncommons is that your buyers are either: 1) species collectors, or 2) complete set collectors. Therefore, they have a shallower buyer pool than any holos or chase cards from the set, that tend to appeal to more buyers.
There is money to be made, but the sales will be very slow.
I have a couple hundred myself. It’s neat to have the whole set graded but it may be literally the worst financial move you could make in this hobby. It’s an issue of both supply and demand; basically I expect to lose money if I ever chose to sell them.
Thanks for the replies. I think for now I will stick to only my absolute favorites in 1st ed PSA 10 (like the Light Wigglytuff from Neo Destiny). I can quickly see collecting PSA 9’s of C/UC getting out of hand space and price wise since it’s an endless pool of things to stock up on. I’ll stick to unlimited for my binder too. Thanks!
