I use to be on the discord years ago, but realized the culture there wasn’t my cup of tea. I do miss when everyone would hop into a call to watch auctions end (is that still a thing?).

Honestly, this is why I’m not on the discord or use the chat function. The content and interactions on the forum alone are just fine on their own.

I am a gen Z and while I probably would’ve joined the Discord a few years ago, I’ve just found that every public server I was in was extremely mentally draining for me as I am a more orderly person. Everything had political undertones and every conversation felt so charged? Idk I was most active in Splatoon wiki (Inkipedia) and Pokemon wiki (Bulbapedia) servers at the time.
Also to say that death threats are just a part of gen Z humor is strange and destructive imo. Regardless if they are the jokes of this particular generation (which I haven’t encountered many that do use them), that doesn’t mean they should be allowed to proliferate. Any new user shouldn’t have to become a “well-initiated E4 member” in order to recognize that these are jokes either. In addition, even if “I wanna kill you” is a joke, that can still provide a slippery slope for actual threats that may fly under the radar, and contacting a mod is not something that any user should be compelled to do; rather I picture that as more of a last resort for actual harassment. However, Discord is a different environment than something like a job so I may be wrong there.
That’s all that I kind of have to say on that. You will truly find all of the bad eggs of gen Z on Discord so moderation is especially key there. You seem like you’re very passionate about being a mod on the E4 server too and I’m not trying to denounce your obvious involvement within the server. Just offering my take

Was Triple banned again? The main reason I left the discord was because he was unbanned despite his ban at the time being completely valid

We’ll I’d join back except it sounds like the discord is just as bad as when I left it. My mental health immediately got a bit better when I left the discord.

Having a site-affiliated Discord that isn’t strictly governed is a huge liability in 2025, I’m surprised E4 still has an official one?

The discord is 98% fine and positive. As others have noted, the barrier to entry is much lower and the discord demographic is different, so it is certainly not an analogue of the forum experience.
We have strict rules which are enforced. Much of the complaints to me have been less about blatant rulebreaking which goes unaddressed and instead vaguer issues around not “feeling welcome” or certain people being annoying, unfriendly, rude, or making jokes in bad taste. I say that not to dismiss those complaints or claim the discord is perfect, but to make a distinction between the free-for-all discords that are out there and E4.

If Meta got banned, Nico should get banned. They were doing the exact same thing and only 1 went punished. I’ve talked to some members and they’ve said the exact same thing (I’m not going to leak sources in fear of retaliation)

Honestly this is a big thing to get. While I definitely did like talking to people in #general, I ultimately ended up muting it and only occasionally poking my head in because I wasn’t a fan of the political posting and it was draining my sanity. As much as I wish it was different, it’s much easier for me to mute it and pretend it doesn’t exist (outside of the political posting leaking out occasionally, which does make me want to leave sometimes).
I do like #card-chat and the like for general Pokemon/card talk .

Just because I don’t leak names dosen’t mean I’m not standing behind my point. I just don’t want the others time in there to be hell because I said something about it. The adults in E4 compared to Discord is 2 different things
I want there to be a change, and even though it likely will never happen, I can’t at least try. I’m tired of them sugarcoating it and I want them to actually do something. It’s like they’ve got the mods in their pocket and the ones that dont get banned.
Keep in mind Meta got banned for insulting someone multiple times until they left, and I can name people who’ve done that before.

Discord is more than fine. Majority of the time its just regulars hanging out. The people complaining are venting their preference or personal frustration, which is totally fine, but if there isn’t a consistent rule being broken, or if people can’t be bothered to report a problem to a mod, their complaints aren’t actionable.
The main issues are the free flowing format and you can’t please everyone. There are 7.6 million posts in the general channel alone, which 95%+ are normal. The problems tend to arise from chronically online people who go a little too far and/or get into petty drama. Ultimately I think people feel fatigue, mainly from the format of discord, more than an actionable problem.

What i meant was to message the mods with your concerns but also remember that they have lives too, nobody gets paid for modding, so just because youve put it on their radar doesnt mean they ignore it. Without clear proof that is literally spoon fed to them will they be able to do much. Vagueness doesnt really help nor does saying its an issue but avoiding being specific.
Sorry if i assumed too much about either side in my views.

They’ve litterally been there when it happened, even typing during those moments with 0 warnings. Idk if you’ve been as active at the discord as I have, but I’ve seen all of this firsthand, and I’m only being vague because this is a public forum (I have however mentioned what they’ve said to me and other members above).
