I joined in 2017 and when I asked the best way to flatten out some of my bent cards, everyone here told me to iron them. Toxic cause I have all these burnt but flat cards since.

As for your scalper description, that sounds pretty crazy even for discord. The last few days pokemoncenter had drops, so there were people memeing screenshots from actual scalper servers. Discord is full of bad jokes and ultimately an acquired taste; its essentially the rotting painting in the attic, for any Dorian Gray fans! 
Overall a boom is going to be harder to bear on any platform. The 2020 boom was less enjoyable than 2019. With that said, if someone is breaking a rule, feel free to message a mod. If they aren’t, we can’t cater to everyone’s preferences. I’d just take this time to give a friendly reminder this is a free to use hobby site which is run by people who have full lives & jobs outside of pokemon. As the person who has been around the longest, right now is easily the hardest time to enjoy pokemon, and its not limited to E4.

discords are where ppl originate pump n dump schemes, market manipulation, scalping, botting etc (the paid ones at least) so if the same people made their way into the e4 one the culture difference from a forum would make sense

The wonderful thing about social media is that you can engage with it as much as you would like. If there is too much negativity, let it fester alone and take a break.
I am one of the top five posters on e4, ever. It’s almost embarrassing to say (I promise I have a life outside of this place), but I hope that it conveys my strong belief in the value of this forum. If you see value in this community like I do, I would encourage you to contribute more and be the change that you wish to see.
I can’t speak for Discord because I am not on there, but you can use the mute button for content that irritates you on the forum. Engage with what jives with you and ignore the rest, and you might find that this place becomes more enjoyable over time.

Simply don’t use the discord server if you don’t like the culture there.
When I realized that I disliked the instagram culture I uninstalled the app. Not every space needs to be enjoyable for every person. We live in a world where it’s far easier to curate where you spend your time rather than trying to force the culture of an existing community to fit your standards.

Not a huge fan of joining group Discords due to the inevitable drama that comes with them. However, I do find it ironic that the topic talking about how toxic the Discord is ended up having drama from that carry over onto the forum.

The barrier to entry and posting is much lower on a discord server. There was a time in 2021 I had to leave the discord for a while because it became too unbearable for me. I feel like it’s directly related to the same complaints to the hobby as a whole being “more toxic.” When there’s a boom in interest in collecting pokemon, we see more posts complaining about scalpers, more videos of people fighting in Costco, and more annoying behavior in the E4 discord. At least that’s been my experience.

I can’t speak for the past as I’m a relative newcomer, but overall I’ve found E4 to be very welcoming. It seems like a place where we can all share our love of the hahbee, in whatever form that takes. Of course there are some disagreements, but that happens on any forum.
I once shared my collection here, and responses were universally positive, with some follow on questions about my favourite card, etc. People seemed genuinely interested in my story. I shared the same story on another forum and…well…
Let’s just say I named the first toxic planet i found in No Mans Sky “Reddit”.

Crying about scalpers and being uneducated on the topic is beyond toxic too.
Just have fun collecting and enjoy the hobby without trying to virtue signal.
