I stumbled across an interesting card. Has anyone ever seen an “error” like this on old back Japanese cards? Personally, it doesn’t look anything remotely close to sun fade as the borders outside of the art box are perfectly intact. It seems as though the holo pattern is also distorted as it doesn’t have the star pattern we all know. The lines are also messy and there seems to be holo bleed and a slight holo shift on the bottom right.
Have had people tell me it’s fake – which to me seems highly unlikely as I’ve handled thousands of old backs and nothing (other than the messed up art/holo) looks strange. Everything seems legit and as it should be.
Interesting card which I don’t know what to make of. Anyone have any idea?
My gut says fake. I’ve never seen or heard of anything like this before so I’d be very surprised if it was an honest error card. I wouldn’t consider myself an “expert” at identifying fakes or errors for that matter so I’m interested to see what others have to say.
Feels exactly the same as any other old back I’ve had, which is thousands. The text also perfectly lines up and the back is the perfect colour with perfect font and colour choices placement.
Only the art and holo is different, the rest of the card is exactly as it should be.
Then how exactly do we determine it’s fake when it all aligns with it being a real card? Just because something doesn’t seem plausible and it’s unlikely,
Doesn’t mean it’s fake, that’s a fallacy.
I’m not saying it’s real. But everything about it, other than the strange holo and messed up art is 100% real. I’ve matched it up with other base set Charizards for hours and everything aligns perfectly.
So how exactly do I get a proper answer? People can throw around the word “fake” as much as they like just because they haven’t seen anything like it before (I myself haven’t either) but it doesn’t mean it’s fake.
May just have to send to CGC and see what they think.
I live in Japan and have had thousands of base set Charizards. Everything other than the art box is exactly the same. Same text composition, colours, placement, etc.
Fakes like this aren’t common……Not for WOTC era. Not at all. I’ve lived in Japan for over 3 years and have not once seen a fake like this.
But again, as I stated in another comment. I’m not saying it isn’t fake. But I’ve yet to have any refutable evidence that it is indeed fake.
As I’ve said. Other than the messed up holo and art box. Everything else is exactly the same as every other base set Japanese Charizard. I’ve hyper analysed.
I’m curious if something like this would be possible.
You obviously came here because you recognized you’d be given expert advice, however you’re only willing to accept this advice if it aligns with your hope that you’ve struck gold
Not true! I’m very open to the fact that it’s fake. But so far the only “evidence” I’ve had put forward is that “I’ve never seen an error like this, so it’s fake.”
I’m willing to accept it’s fake if someone can point out why it’s fake. Because as I’ve stated, other than the art box, everything else aligns with it being a real card.
I’ve hyper analysed it with other base set Charizards and it all lines up perfectly, other than the art box.
