NM card arrives damaged. How should I feel about this?

I bought a lot of 3 cards (charizard, blastoise and venusaur ex XY121 - 123) described as NM. Price was good, cards arrived quickly, but the venusaur was bent. I provided pictures of the venusaur explaining that the card is “straight up bent” and that I was wondering if "an exchange is at all possible. I’d be willing to pay shipping for you to send a new one out and I’d send mine back.
"

He replies insisting the the 3 cards he sent out were NM and that they take great care in examining each card under light to look for damage. He said an exchange or partial refund was not possible and my only option was to send all 3 card back. I cannot tell whether he’s blaming me or USPS for the damage.

I appreciate that he would be willing to offer me a refund but I’d like to keep the other 2 cards so I guess I’m just going to have to keep this venusaur.

All things considered this transaction left a pretty bad taste in my mouth but I guess I’m going to let it go.

If it was damaged, you are allowed the return the damaged card and recieve a refund. You are also entitled to keep what you paid for, and do not have to return all three ( assuming they were 3 separate listings and not the same.)

Same listing unfortunately.

Is it bent or creased? Bent can be fixed and falls under NM, remember NM is a PSA 7 condition no wear near a 10 or even 9.

Creased, I would just return it. Since it’s a SNAD claim waiting to happen.

Straight up creased. I’m okay when holos bend but this venusaur has an actual legit crease in it.

i think you would need to return all 3 friend. shame :slightly_frowning_face:

I don’t understand that seller. That card is clearly not NM. Why do they want all 3 cards back? They will try relisting the whole lot as NM?

How much are we talking here though… Aren’t these promo cards $3 each or so? It sucks, but if you’re happy with the other 2 you’re losing out on maybe a couple bucks keeping the creased Venusaur…

I think he’s trying to bait OP from not sending everything back, or they are simply upset because they themselves are thinking they are being scammed

If shipping was cheap for me, I would ship it back since the cards are not that hard to find and I want to get my point across to the seller that I wasn’t trying to fish for a partial refund and I genuinely received a damaged card.

Was this eBay?

Yeah this is some reverse psychology BS, I guess. Seller is playing hardball and knows chances are OP will just keep the cards and not send everything back… What I don’t understand is they’re willing to put their reputation on the line over a few dollars.
If this is on ebay, he should absolutely file a claim and ask for the seller to pay the return shipping label which will probably cost more than the difference in cost of a LP/NM Venusaur.

I think you highlighted an important aspect of my exchange with the seller (I bolded and underlined.) I can’t help but get the feeling the seller believes I may be pulling something on him. He insisted that he sent out 3 NM cards. He basically insisted that he isn’t to blame for any of this. He could’ve easily blamed usps but instead left it open ended which made me feel as if he might actually be accusing me of trying to pull something on him. Utterly insulting but because he didn’t outright accuse me of it I don’t feel it would be fair to treat him as if he’s accusing me of anything.

One of these potential scams might be what he suspects from me with NO evidence.

A: shaking him for a partial refund dishonestly.
B: trying to swap out a bent venusaur from my collection with a NM one I received from him.

So instead of handling the situation in a way that I find satisfactory he instead plays hardball and insists I send all 3 cards back. This covers him because he did offer me a solution & ebay would basically force him to accept the return anyways if I involved them and makes it less likely that I would send the cards back because I’ve already told him I wanted the blastoise and charizard.

really unfortunate. I received a bent card and simply want an exchange or reimbursement and am willing to pay shipping both ways but because the seller is paranoid I’m out of luck.

Yup, I completely sympathize with you because that’s the general gist I got from your posts, and it’s an issue that I myself have faced and so the others in the community. I was pretty sure that’s what you felt!

Unfortunately, a handful of sellers when faced with ebay buyer issues, they can react negatively and are unable to react appropriately to the issue. It’s honestly a lose-lose situation here because he may simply be an honest but careless seller who may also faced multiple scams (making the seller bitter over time) whereas you’re an honest buyer who felt wronged because you randomly got a damaged card for no reason. Te seller can just be a crappy seller also, who is simply a sucky seller :slightly_frowning_face:

My best guess is that the seller thinks you are doing option A to them and the hardball tactic won’t be great on them since it would result in a negative feedback. I guess they just think that if you are doing option A, you probably won’t put the extra effort in doing the return since technically it would waste your time and it would net you with nothing, whereas perhaps the seller can sell it again and pass it off NM? (Seriously like Poken00b88 I don’t get this strategy).

Sadly these things happen from time to time and hopefully you’ll find a better seller in the future!

Do this.
