Neo Gen also has a lot of popular holos to go for, 6 starters + Pichu + Lugia. It’s not like no one likes Kingdra but it’s never going to get close to those prices.
Neo Gen really is a weird microcosm of a set. You can’t go by pop alone. The Metal Energy is pop 17, and Smeargle from Neo Discovery is pop 18. I’ve seen $4k+ sales of Smeargle and wouldn’t be surprised to see $5k or $6k; the same can’t be sad for Metal Energy to my knowledge.
Well it is pretty tough to compare a pokemon to an energy but I get the point. Metal Energy does have 2 sales at like 2250 recently so not shabby for an energy haha.
Anyways, I was never saying Kingdra should get close to those super popular pokemon. Of course it won’t. I was just surprised that is was was close/lower than other uhhhh “less popular” pokemon in the set that are easier to grade. Why is Togetic getting 600+ now yet Kingdra is sub 500. I would’ve thought these are comparable popularity wise but perhaps more people love Togetic?
Who knows, just makes for interesting observation and discussion.
I think people do prefer Togetic over Kingdra. And some may like Kingdra but not this particular card. It’s really up to preference.
Smeargle is the GOAT. Undervalued until it hits 20k!!!
On a personal note, when it comes to the PSA 10 price of a hard to grade card of your favorite Pokemon… Be careful what you wish for! It’s great that you can pick up the first ever Kingdra relatively cheap in PSA 10. For years I told people how great Chansey was, but now that it’s remained the lowest pop Base card with the price to match, I wish it was less liked or easier to grade! 
Haha good points, luckily Kingdra isn’t my favorite pokemon, that would belong to Ampharos. So, I know the pain all too well since it is the hardest card to grade in Neo Rev and in Aquapolis it seems…

Haha yeah, maybe some day but I’ve accepted the fact it is near impossible. I did pick up a PSA 9 for it though.
The artwork just isn’t that desirable imo, and I usually don’t hear people talk about the card. Now, if they had swapped it with the neo rev artwork, it would be pretty expensive in english 1st edition psa 10 I would think
metal energy looks better than smeargle.
It’s interesting that you would mention this specific Kingdra 10, because the seller was also selling a Kingdra 9 at the same time. And from the pictures on both listings, it was clear to me that the 9 was in better condition than the 10 (centering).
