Need Some Opinions. Worth it or not?

Hey! First post to the forums :grin:

I wanted an opinion that I am torn on making a decision. My local card shop has this beauty in the case and I’m seriously considering getting it.

What would you consider the max you’d pay for this card? Not only does it bring back nostalgia for me, but I also haven’t seen a lot of PSA 9s for the reverse Zapdos.

I wanted to see what you all think before I say what they are asking for it, because I wanna know if I’m crazy for considering their price :rofl: tell me what you would pay before opening the spoiler below it.

Last sale is significantly less than previous 2. Lowest listed right now is above that asking price. I would offer $700

yeah! that $600 is scaring me a little. I feel like this card would do nothing but rise due to its age and other factors, but just makes me worry its on a decline.

it was around the $900 but it didnt sell for a while then the more recent sold for significantly less.

As much as I love Zapdos, it’s not /that/ popular of a card. A lot of cards are high right now so if you don’t mind waiting a bit, that may be a good course of action (a low auction sale could indicate a downward trend in prices). If you really want the card now, I’d agree $700 is a fair offer.

The line will not always go up, it’s possible Pokemon as a whole will go flat or decline in value for a decade or more in the future.

If the card went to $100 or something, and that would cause you financial strain, don’t recommend buying it.

As a speculative vehicle I would spend my money elsewhere.

If you like the card as a collectible then offering slightly higher than last sold is reasonable.

Legendary collection is cool, so if you can afford it and love the card, go for it.

Maybe you can also consider a PSA 8? Plenty of them are harshly graded and only have a print line or a minuscule white dot on the back.

its a combination of both. I love the card but I cant financially break the bank on something that will tank haha.

I hope to be able to part with some of my collection in 15 years when my son is going to college and pay some of his college.

yeah, Grade isnt really that important for me, as long as the card looks nice.

i might try that, but this is at my local store and i know its authentic.

I’d just put the money in a 529 if you’re mindset is helping your son with college in the future.

If you just want the card and the college funding is trying to justify the purchase, I’d tread lightly. Pokemon cards are luxury speculative goods, not a proven tax advantaged financial vehicle.

I’d offer the LCS $500 max.

Force yourself to save up for it from $0. Make a bucket in your bank account and actively contribute to it through hard work. You will know if you really want the card after all of that hard work and time has gone by.

I agree with Will. Don’t buy Pokemon cards to fund your child’s future education. That is a selfish way to treat their future.

The amount of appreciation LC has seen in the past 2 years is astounding. It’s one of the most scarce wotc sets. Not that much sealed product left in the wild and the cards are hard to grade. I can only see it move up from here

Why not get this one instead :

Reasons :

  • legendary collection’s holo pattern is frankly ridiculous, the kind of thing that falls out of love very fast
  • it’s a reprint, it’s english why not buy the original instead
  • it’s more beautiful, cheaper, and very likely to only go up in value. You actually get a 10 instead of settling for a 9
