Need advice – Possible fake 1st Edition Pokémon booster boxes from Yahoo Auctions Japan?

Hi everyone,

I’m hoping to get some experienced eyes on a couple of items I recently purchased and would really appreciate any advice.

I bought the following listings via Buyee from Yahoo Auctions Japan:

• Auction 1: Yahoo!オークション - ポケモンカード Fossil 1st Edition 1999 pokemo...
• Auction 2: Yahoo!オークション - ポケモンカード BASE SET 1st Edition 1999 poke...

They are advertised as 1st Edition Pokémon booster boxes (Base / Fossil era).

A few things are making me nervous after the fact:
• Both auctions were only live for about 1 day
• Seller has only 7 reviews
• Reviews appear to be purchase reviews only, not sales
• Pricing feels very low compared to market (too good to be true - put a bid in that I felt I would lose but woke up to winning the auctions)
• Shrink wrap has Wizards of the Coast logos, which I know is a debated topic
• Photos look clean but I’m not experienced enough to confidently judge authenticity
• I’ve since seen discussions about fake or resealed Pokémon items on Yahoo Auctions

I’ve attached the seller photos here (front, sides, back, shrink wrap, barcodes, etc.).

At this stage the items haven’t arrived yet.
My questions:

  1. Do these look legitimate based on packaging, wrap, layout, codes, etc?
  2. Are there any known red flags with Yahoo Auctions listings like this?
  3. If this is too good to be true, should I be doing something now (e.g. contacting Buyee, cancelling, preparing a dispute)?
  4. Has anyone seen similar fake listings recently on Yahoo Auctions?

I’m not trying to accuse the seller unfairly — just genuinely concerned and want to act early if needed.

Any insight from collectors who know vintage WotC sealed product would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Look at the difference between the one you bought and other examples. Specifically the pokeball which is the most obvious difference. The wizards stamp is also a problem like you mentioned.

Lol, I saw all these boxes on Yahoo the other day thinking someone is gonna have a bad day. Sorry OP, but they are fake. Good luck with the refund process.

Definitely fake boxes. Beyond the awful graphics, the price is also a clear indicator. In 2026, sealed vintage booster boxes are not flying under the radar. If they are cheap, they are fake.

As pikachutcg suggested, it’s a good practice to look up these types of items on AliExpress to see if you can find the source. You’d be shocked how many Mercari and Yahoo Japan fakes are sourced directly from the website, sometimes with the exact same pictures to drop-ship fakes.

The amount of fake product on AliExpress is terrifying. Just search “booster box” or “Pokemon PSA 10.”

Best of luck getting your money back, OP. Your only option may be a chargeback and getting your account banned.
