Oh wow, I got my terms mixed up. >_< I meant Sequel. XD
And oh no, I know you’re not saying that. I’m just offering a counter-opinion (after all, these are opinions we’re discussing haha). I guess too, I’m considering my own feelings in this, as I’ve been super hyped for movies that went above and beyond what I was expecting. Case and point on a personal basis: Mad Max.
And yeah, I’m definitely okay with cross-media comparison. I think maybe in a similar matter, there was so much gap in time between Half Life 2 and the potential with 3 that I feel like people have settled into believing this was the best of the best already. In a similar fashion, the same could be said in the 30 years between the original trilogy and the new movie coming up with Star Wars (no one says that the last three are better or count for comparison, not unless you watch Red Letter Media for entertainment).
I just think that if there was a movie to stand above all the hype, it would be this one. There’s a lot of promise going into it.
The only thing is, people will have to accept that this goes against the old Expanded Universe as most of it was deemed non-canon which gave Disney free reign over the story, basically. If people are open to that, then I think it stands a great chance to meet past the hype expectations.
@azulryu my point in highlighting the disappointment of previous Star Wars movies was not in itself a prediction of the new trilogy. If anything I wanted to explain that Lucasfilms’ effort was not aligned with the spirit of the original movies (hence my comment about CGI Yoda), but it seems like these movies with Disney and Abrams (and hopefully the next directors) will be. I think most fans are willing to forego canon if the movies at the very least seem to be connected to what made the originals great: story arc and real, memorable characters. CGI should be punctuation and not the point of everything.
Edit: and for the record, I am suuuuuuuuper excited! I have tickets for opening night, first showing!!
12/18/15 Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip

12/18/15 Sisters (2015)
Plot: A pair of sisters get together to throw one last, epic house party before their parents to decide to sell their old home for good.
12/18/15 Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens
Plot: Having selected a planet for the surviving Jedi to colonize, the older Jar Jar Binks persuades his younger self to continue serving in the Rebellion, encouraging him to do what feels right instead of what is logical.
Alright guys, I have refrained from reading any opinions or reviews, so I don’t know where my opinion stands in relation to everyone else, but here it is:
Abrams did not fuck it up. You need to go see Star Wars as soon as possible.
