Definitely! I remember talking to Yamato and Takuya Yoneda about their trophy cards. Neither were interested in selling, which I completely understand. Winning a card at a major tournament, especially one with your picture on it would be a very rare personal experience.
But who knows what Yamato would say to $1000000 USD cash. ;D
The reality is we just can’t know. Mr. Burns cash is not like normal cash. It surpasses most minor principles and becomes a “Am I going to do literally whatever for the rest of my life or am I going to keep a single card.”
At that point, I think even many people on Japan would reconsider.

For some reason I find it odd that people would want cards with other people’s faces on them. Unique illustrations of franchise characters are easy to appreciate, but shelling out large sums of money for what pretty much amounts to a personalized gift meant for someone else just doesn’t seem right to me. Most of the value of those cards isn’t monetary, but rather sentimental for the players who won those tournaments. I would be pretty intrigued to see how much such a card could sell for if it were to hit the open market as I can’t see it beating the illustrator in value for example.
Different people have different interests I guess; I suppose Mr. Burns wouldn’t be beyond throwing some money away to get a copy of a Pokemon card with some random kid’s face on it just cause it’s rare.

It’s as easy to see it as an important historic card as it is a personalized gift. I would hazard a guess that most chasing it would be interested in it primarily for the former.

exactly, people arnt realizing how much money we’re talking, i dont care if the guy said hes not selling, if even an amount remotely close to 1 million USD is offered, these guys would accept it

One complete set known? Whose?
A full set of the Chinese promo cards handed out at the Taiwan PokéPark in 2006. They’re a mixture of the pop series. I tried very hard for a full set - no joy.

Mr. Burns is not only rich but evil(ish) so if he thinks that an insane amount of money would not secure these ‘face’ trophy cards then all he would have to do is make identical copies, hire an ultimate elite ninja team to break into their houses and switch out the fakes with real copies.
The more unknown the card locations are, the harder it would be for a Mr. Burns character to locate.
Am I the only person seeing these for the first time? I would love to have a thread where we compile trophy cards for each year in some sort of organised format, they are truly the rarest of the rare numbers wise and I feel like i and many others only know about only a handful of the more lesser known gems out there.
Also discounting trophy cards as they aren’t sets so to speak, I would still argue either the snap cards or getting your hands on the scramble set eevee, croagunk and pachirisu would be the most difficult to complete by far.
Edit: also them damn art academy cards, some of the owners seem to not be letting go of them unless someone is prizing them from their dead hands.

As in numbers for each printed? It’s 100 copies of each given out in an unknown promotion according to bulbapedia for the scramble cards and I have no idea on the snap cards. Also as we all know, the art academy cards are also 100 copies of each.
