Hey all! I wasn’t sure where to post this or if it warranted its own thread, but I’ve been doing some research and was curious if anyone else has noticed something similar.
I have 16 copies of the prize pack 4 Drifloon, which has a cosmos/galaxy holo pattern. 11 of them are in English and then 1 in German, 1 in French, 1 in Spanish, 1 in Italian and 1 in Portuguese. Within the English copies, 4 of them have a very subtle and muted cosmos/galaxy holo. I’ve looked them over repeatedly to see if it’s a different variant of the holo (how some people say to look for the star shapes in the galaxy holo vs the more rounded looking orbs in a cosmos holo) but it does not appear to be the case-- it’s just less intense. It’s a very noticeable difference and I am generally the last person to see these things.
(left is muted, right is vibrant)
The German, French, Spanish and Italian copies all have the vibrant cosmos holo but I only have one of each for my “sample size”.
Portuguese has the Saturn cosmos foil which is slightly different as well, but to my knowledge this is typical of all Portuguese cosmos holos.
(from left to right; vibrant version, muted version, Portuguese version)
I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed this muted cosmos holo on the prize pack 4 holo cards, whether in English or any other language. Or noticed it in other cosmos foils, where the only difference is just that it’s not as easy to see, I’m not sure how else to describe it.
Apologies if this reads strangely; English is not my first language and I am new here.

English In the USA people have noticed that sometimes there is a weird printing defect where cards look slightly different, and can have a weird texture on them that is rough and its visually weird. From context clues on other cards, they are definately printing english promos outside of the USA print facility. Some England/Ireland promos have had some holo differences in the modern era that I’ve discovered and in one case that was quite obvious that others noticed.
Also is that Portuguese card from Portugal or Brazil? I knew that in the past there was brazilian portugese cards that had a different holo pattern, but it doesn’t look the same as this one.

Portuguese cards nowadays are exclusively made for the Brazilian market in Brazil, the official import of Portuguese cards to Portugal stopped quite some time ago.

Interesting. That could explain it, USA English print vs UK English print? Just out of curiosity do you have any pictures of these other holo cards?

I guess I’ll get to it finally. Been dragging my feet a little on it. I’ll be sure to tag you.

Thanks for creating this thread, I recently noticed something similar going on with 151 PLAY cards. Here’s my Series 5 Dodrio where seeing holo shimmer can be a bit hard without extra light source. There’s multiple copies on ebay where holo appears more generously around the card.
For comparison I also took picture from Series 6 Ditto, even in natural light it looks more sparkly than Dodrio above.

Ah ha! Proof! Yes this is exactly what I’m seeing. Thank you for the examples!
