Small rant maybe but is it only a thing in Europe currently that more and more people have the opinion that scratches on Slabs are reducing the value?
I had the 4th customer in 1 week who wanted to check for scratches on the slabs? Ended up not paying any attention to that, I don`t want to deal with any of that but did this occure to other people as well?
I dont see why it would matter, but have you told those people about the reholder service if its PSA though? Ive not seen people too picky, but I beleive it.
The reholder fee is like $13 but the return shipping is really high, like $25 or so. Also can’t return it with another PSA sub, so it costs close to $40 to reholder one card
I believe the straightforward answer would be the current wave of new collectors who are unaware that:
a) Most scratches can be buffed out with a polisher like Plastx, &
b) In cases where scratches are more severe, most grading companies will be re-case the slab.
But beyond that, I also believe that this current wave of collectors is more pretentious than ever. There is a trend to maximize the appeal of every card they own, only going after 10/10+ grade labels, decorating slabs with color matching guards, and so attached to cert numbers / pop reports. These aren’t wrong on their own but this mindset of having only perfect cards tends to lose the focus of ptcg collecting at the end of day imo.
Plastic collectors
The psa case gets scratched so the card doesn’t. Its amazing how people are micro analyzing the most pointless stuff with these cards now.
The reveal goes crazy
Personally, i use meguiars m105 compond for really great clariety on my slabs. And people do seem to appreciate a newly polished slab.
Never thought my automotive detailing hobby would intersect pokemon but here we are.
Like others have said, just use plastx. I’d only be upset if it had deep scratches that polish couldnt get out. I use plastx and then throw it into a graded guard.
Let the circle go back to penny sleeve in a binder already.
