I am having. A hard time evaluateing and authenticating both these cards any help would be appreciated
Hello and welcome to the forums. The artist seems to be very active on IG so it can be the best to just ask them directly regarding the authenticity of these cards.
I think one of the major grading companies also recognizes them officially as an artist, so that can also be a way to authenticate the sketches.
Cheers!
Can I dislike and like a post at the same time?
(P.S I love rayquaza, if it’s fake you can always sell it to me
)
The Deoxys is a slightly altered copy of this Ken Sugimori stock art so I would say it’s an authentic Moduwa.
As @mrbubbles points out, the best thing to do is contact the artist directly if you are concerned given that they are accessible.
No disrespect, but are there even people out there doing Moduwa fakes?
It wouldn’t surprise me if it happened.
At least $700-1k minimum value for each.
Reach out to Moduwa directly and see, but his crosshatching shading is always very straight and precise.
I’ll still be forever surprised that some people pay 1k+ for moduwa considering they don’t even work in the tcg space as an artist.
Try drawing it and tell me how easy it is.
I did this 10 minute sketch a few weeks ago for a friend of mine during the same discussion. I could do better if instead of 10 minutes, I dedicated 15 minutes. But at the end of the day, please keep in mind that Moduwa’s drawing are “copies” of other arts, that I think that he just uses a projector to trace the drawing and then add lines for shadows.
I respect people who buy Moduwa’s card, but in terms of art quality, I would say is tier mid-low, compared to any other artist over there in the community doing custom artworks.
I think PSA authenticating their drawings has greater influence on why people buy them than the drawings itself
Booo…I dont see enough Metapods!
Cheers!
Personally I can’t draw, but as a consumer of orginal artwork and autos, I rather spend my money on somthing thats not straight up copies of other existing artwork (as others have already pointed out).
Also, we are seeing other new IG artists copy and doing the same style. This I only know about cause Moduwa called them out before (which I found a bit odd).
Pot, meet kettle
I need this!
At this point they basically do work as a tcg artist. If the definition of being a professional artist is being paid for your work, he probably is in the top 1% lol
Metapod gonna put him out of business
He definitely is making bank, no denying that.
I don’t think so. He has a big enough following which is why he even got recognized by PSA in the first place. We’re in a weird bubble where everything unattainable becomes collectible, whether or not scarcity is a factor. It won’t last forever.
@Metapod_museum If you did this, kudos! That’s really good.
I’m not saying that he didn’t copy existing artwork, but to me there’s no denying that it’s a lot cleaner than a lot of the people trying to copy his art now. I have found some great artists because of this side niche, and it’s great to have options.
I don’t think there is evidence of this. Do they have a large following and that’s why they’re in the PSA database, or do they have a large following because they’re in the PSA database?
I remember when these were first getting attention, nobody here even knew who “Moduwa” was. We had to double check and eventually realized they weren’t a TCG illustrator and were just a random person that got into the PSA database.
I feel like that is isolated to E4 because plenty of IG people knew him which is why all this started. His following is mainly on IG. He got recognized by PSA and that’s when people tried listing them for sale. That’s why we’re here talking about him. It was just an artist making fan art. That’s it. Now, it’s a business for him. The others are trying it because they see how much money it brings in.
