Mew ex 007/Play Promo - 15,000 EXP Version Discovery?

Hello All!

Long time lurker, first time poster. My name is Robert or ‘Ampharob’ as I go by on my YouTube and other social media.

I recently made a purchase of a Mew ex 007/Play Promo however found something interesting that came with it. It was a Pokemon Players Club Booklet which has a ‘Congratulations’ message inside for reaching the 15,000 EXP threshold.

My understanding is this card originally had a 15,000 EXP threshold before being changed to 7000 EXP after two quarters of play. The 7000 EXP version however was given out in a plastic ‘wallet’ which is commonly seen on selling websites, however this 15,000 Point version came with a Players Club sleeve within that booklet.

So my question is, is this the first instance of this booklet being shown? I personally have never heard of or seen it before, and neither have any other people I’ve asked so would love to find out any more information!

Thank you for your time!

P.S - Excuse all of the extra stuff at the beginning of the video, the build up of the booklet starts at around 4:05

Beautiful card, intriguing discovery!

Great video, love your stuff and started watching ever since Max’s japan vlogs :relaxed:

Hopefully someone here can share some more knowledge but this situation seems similar to that of a darkrai daisuke club promo from the DP era.

Edit: Pokémon cards which may not exist - YouTube
At the 5:00 mark djgigabyte (a prominent e4 member) talks about the darkrai situation.

Thank you for sharing! One of my favourite things in this hobby is the documentation and other non-card items that are given along with “prize cards” like these. It’s very cool and interesting, which always makes me a bit sad when I buy a non-set card that’s just in a PSA slab removed from the context.

@mthursty, Thank you very much for sharing that, definitely shed some new info to me and I look forward to looking for more info regarding that too!

@mykel,I agree, the history of Pokemon especially in Japan has so much to it and it’s crazy how many things are being discovered. And yes I agree, it can be a shame to remove it from the original casing, but I see why people do grade these though, lots of money spent, so you would want to preserve/increase value.

Update: I’ve asked multiple high end collector’s and so far none have ever seen the booklet before. This is very exciting! There was one mention of someone seeing something many years ago on pokegym forums however I had a look through and wasn’t able to find anything… the hunt continues!

In Japan, this card was awarded to members of the Pokémon Players Club who earned 15000 EXP Points during the first two seasons or 7000 EXP Points when the Point distribution was modified during the third or fourth seasons.

It’s been known and documented here for over a year. The booklet is a whole new story though, so it’s really nice to see video proof of its existence! People tend to focus on the card more than the documentation I guess? Awesome purchase!

Nice video, thanks for sharing.

Iv seen this booklet before with listings from japan. There are a lot of inconsistencies we don’t know for instance the espeon in japan is known as 40,000 points yet we call it 50,000 points and that’s how it gets labeled when graded, Also another inconsistency is the PSA pop they have a few mew and celebi’s under 2005, with the majority of the pop under 2003. My thoughts are like yours in 2003-2004 the mew was probably 15,000 points and they lowered it in 2005 when they released the gold stars

@melchior, I LOVE the documentation of things, every piece of paper that comes with something is important to it and shows that history. I collect Pokemon pins from Japan and for the ones I take out of the packaging I even keep the packaging! aha.

@crystalcollector149, On Bulbapedia it says it took 50,000 points to obtain? But yes, I wonder why it was coined 40,000 Points there unless originally it was that? Or just a mistake?

And thank you to everyone that subscribed or even checked out the video! Might make a separate thread in the ‘Collection additions’ and post all videos on my collection (I hope it’s allowed?)

I have a photo from the release of the cards and points required in 2005. It says the espeon was 40,000. Everything I’ve seen japan leads you to believe it’s 40,000. Shows the mew as 7000 points on the pic btw but it is from 2005 so that would make sense,
