I mean I think a lot of the trust came from it being “authenticated” by akabane and the bandwagon effect, I considered looking into getting one I just decided that there was to much risk for me but if akabane said they are real before this I would have believed him but now I don’t think I’ll ever fully trust his word again
This was Card Shop Lotus, one of the involved that was mentioned in the prototype flow chart. Yappy/Raichu was the store owner when I was there back in September/October
If anyone does want to or ends up going to court, i would agree to be an expert witness to corroborate CGCs actions or lackthereof on the Magic and Wizards cards. I see a lot of similarities here and am more than willing to appear as a witness.
Hopefully it doesnt come to this but id do it for free since they just abused the crap out of my hobby and ignored me when i offered to let them use my data for free. BTW you can still buy those forgeries and to date the certs are active.
Good luck out there.
Yay joy, hope they cancel the certs and don’t just try to sweep it under the rug like nothing happened for Pokémon it always makes me sad when any other tcg or even just collecting hobby has something bad happen
Just decoded delta playtest Wartortle, also made last year. Images below. My interpretation could be wrong, but it looks like the back was printed two months after the front. Any thoughts on why?
Great detective work! Anything too good to be true generally is. I was pretty surprised to see there “cards” come out of the wood works suddenly and command a very hefty price, and nobody had ever heard of them before. I feel bad for people who “invested” in these. Luckily, my exposure here is zero. I have never trusted CGC and here is another example of why one needs a little skepticism, especially when a class of “cards” are only graded by CGC and nobody else.
Just want to add. It seems most of these playtest cards were all printed 1-3 weeks before Pokemon World that took place in Hawaii on 8/16/24-8/18/24. Kimura flew out of Japan to Hawaii to introduce these cards to all the interested parties such as Zack and TCA gaming…
Is it me or does this seem all pre planned ? Literally fresh off the printers and into the hands of unsuspecting buyers … very sad.
Hey Forum. Thank you all for the incredible work. Ive tried to get the dots on my Alpha Playtest Alakazam but I only have a phone and the guide didnt help me out on this, it stems from the initial buy out of Sean.
Im confident its fake, but just to you some additional data. Here it is:
This is the alpha dot pattern: Many of the Pokemon playtest cards were likely printed in 2024 - #664 by pfm
What the dots mean is still inconclusive
I’m wondering why we neglected to question why these playtest cards feature all 151 pokemon since they were not all included in base set. Wouldn’t the test cards have only been for the base set at first?
Just thinking aloud
Thanks for the heads up- so far my psyduck is in the bottom case, so probably not photocopied. Not sure if there’s other ways to authenticate though
This is a really frustrating position to be in.
At what point do we need to break-out the carbon dating? I say that tongue-in-cheek cos I’ve no idea if that application would work in this scenario, but also kind of semi-serious…
Did anyone get the white boarder jungle card from late last year is there any chance they are included in this ?
Bro we don’t know the thinking process behind the base set. Are you saying they already had in mind which Pokémon to use in that set before doing the prototype cards? I think it’s highly unlikely, they probably printed first the 151 then decided how to split them and the chronology of the sets.
Probably not, because they were likely made with an offset printer, but if someone gives me an HD scan I can look at it
Bro, it was a rhetorical question. They’re all fake anyway, relax.
Im super chill, we are here to find some answers, so if you formulate a theory/thought you should expect an answer back.
Anyway we still need to prove the fact some of these cards are fake
If the dating of this specific dot pattern is not publicly known, if anyone has a printer model that prints this type of dot pattern perhaps they could artificially change the date setting in the printer to various dates to determine what kinds of dot patterns are associated with the 2024 and 1996 dates. Another avenue is if people have random pieces of paper printed on printers using this dot pattern in either 1996 or 2024 that we can compare. The exact date/month might be difficult, but perhaps we might be able to identify similar patterns.
Both cgc and PSA verified and slabbed these independently, and they are definitely real cards (just handcut to shit) so I’m not concerned
The March / July difference is so obvious, yet Ytb videos are coming out saying the cards are real based on year alone and not the month. I’d really want those disinformation to end. Pisses me off. I vouched for these cards, invested 40k, fought on social platforms for them and now I actually want them to be all fake just to end this crap.
