Leonhart taking a break from YouTube or at least slowing down

I don’t think I’ve ever seen so much misdirected hate at someone before. The guy makes content for kids, regardless of how expensive his pack openings are. The people who lament about Leonhart’s content being ‘cringe’ (and repeatedly go back in for seconds and thirds to exacerbate their point) are really the cringe people who give this hobby a bad name.

Edit: Also, this “chasing the bag” talk – no shit? When you’ve made it your business to produce Pokemon content for a living, why on earth would you not treat your business as such, and aim to grow your following + revenues + whatever other metric you index your success on? The irony, when the people spewing this stuff are: 1. are at some level, fixated on Pokemon items as some store of value ($), and 2. probably consider them “bag chasers” in more than one aspect of their own lives.

I don t think you and others condeming criticism understand that criticism is different than hate.

Hate is pointless.

Criticism is typically aimed at people/things people like but want to see improved.

I dont make idols out of people or things.
But if i can outpace the banks worthless interest ,why not store value in art that i can appreciate more than fiat currency?

Everything that exists deserves criticism.

Lionhart , Smpratte, rattle, rev, anytuber …no one is above critique.

I guess I gotta step up

It’s not your fault, you’re doing your job correctly

I also don’t see much “hate” going on here.

I really don’t understand why some people act like it is taboo to criticize content creators.

It is one thing to spew profanities or to personally attack someone as a human being. That obviously would have no place here. That would be hatred.

It is quite another to simply comment about the way a creator operates their public platform. Or to lament about a perceived shift towards the child segment of the audience, to the alienation of his adult audience. I can’t fault him for doing that, but I can still express personal dissatisfaction with the direction of the channel.

I agree with pfm’s suggestion that some of us may just wish we had more people on Leonhart’s level that cater more to adults.

Anyway, this was never just a bunch of adults criticizing a children’s content creator. Rather, I think some adults here who found his content engaging before just see it as more cringey now. That isn’t hatred, though.

Oh I was just joking about becoming a Pokémon Youtuber targeting an adult audience, haha.

I’ve been thinking about doing some “Rudy (Alpha Investments)” type videos, but with Pokémon unboxings - basically just being chill and showing what you can expect from booster boxes. I’ll shout out all my non-existent patreon members while doing it.

Oh my bad, I didn’t pay attention to what comment you were replying to haha

Let me be expressly clear: I’m not condemning constructive criticisms. It seems like the internet has brought on an advent of people who think they’re suited to provide advice on the basis of being an armchair YouTuber/founder/whatever.

If these criticisms are grounded in a deeper rooted attempt to understand the levers of what appeals to certain audiences, the impacts that certain changes may have on the business/brand more holistically, then fine. The majority of the negative sentiment in this thread is driven by emotions – let’s not pretend people are providing advice grounded in experience, or even a half arsed attempt at understanding what it’s like to operate a YouTube channel with 1.5 MM+ subscribers.

Yeah, fair enough – I think my response here is being colored by folks off of E4 that blindly rip into content creators like Leonhart.

Seeing those rip on people like Leonhart for no other reason that feeling unsettled by “cringey” content is incredibly annoying.

I believe that is because of the new website and the great divide. smpratte/pfm seem to be level-headed and don’t have time for the drivel that I saw spewed in times prior. The bad actors in the community that previously caused me to not be involved as much are no longer present, and I see a greater respect for research and true knowledge here. I think e4 is in the best place its ever been in.

Me and pfm are the same person!

But really I can’t tell you how good it makes me feel to read your post!

I’m new here and just found the place back in April (around the time I found your channel on YouTube and patreon) so I can’t comment on what it was like before, but man this place is awesome. Besides the insane amount knowledge being shared, it’s such a positive, supportive atmosphere. Something you just don’t see on the internet much anymore unfortunately.

Fanboys should grow up

Agreed with the others — I definitely have noticed that the quality of the discussions and just the general atmosphere here on E4 has greatly improved.

The toxic people seem to have removed themselves. Probably when the easy money went away.

I also greatly prefer this shift in moderation style. There seem to be fewer rules and less moderation, so the whole place feels less uptight. Seemed like in the past threads were constantly getting locked. I guess some of that was expected though, with all the bad actors we had before.

If you call the posts here " misdirected hate" you must be very isolated from the world we live in.

No one is bashing the dude with hate, just criticizing him (at least based on this thread).

I know I’m new here but e4 is the best Pokémon community I’ve ever been a part of. Better than Facebook, instagram etc.

Not even sure I would call those cesspools “communities” haha.

Someone literally said earlier in the thread that they hope he stops making YouTube videos for good and that he has gone “full stupid.” You think that’s genuine criticism?

Constructive criticism is always perfectly fine, but that absolutely was not going on at the very beginning of this thread and you’re kidding yourself if you don’t think envy/jealousy plays a role in some people’s thoughts toward him and toward anyone who has a major platform.
