If they include a promo card I think that would actually be so cool but also would be very targeted by over buying (I finished typing this sentence as @martin posted theirs lol). I really hope they make a squirtle one that I can display.
Also I have a couple theories why they didn’t collab before
- Pokemon and other japanese companies are protective of their branding and I don’t know if they would have agreed to it so early in the franchise, unlike now where they are doing random collabs a lot more
- Lego didn’t want the collab as Pokemon might have been seen as something that could die out quickly or at least fade heavily in popularity
- I’m assuming these sets will have a lot of custom pieces to make them look nice, Lego doesn’t like making custom pieces as it requires making new molds and a lot of times custom pieces are expensive in the secondary market because they are usually exclusive to a few sets
- They didn’t want to influence eachother’s markets as they are competitors in the children’s market and Lego would be giving free advertisement to Pokemon and vise versa
This is just my theory in the subject
I don’t know why they didn’t do this in recenter years though, maybe they have been planning it I know companies can take several years to decide on exact details
