A few of my friends and I were talking about different spins on popular games/movies/shows which helped spark this question:
“Do trainers ever lose their Pokeballs? And if so, what happens to them?”
Which then turned into this question:
“What if a Pokemon Was Mythical/Legendary not because it was super powerful and one of a kind, but ONLY because it was the last Pokemon of its kind left?”
Imagine a Pokemon Game or Series where the main protagonist is part of a Pokemon Orphanage and Rehabilitation center to find lost Pokeballs where they work to also reunite and rehabilitate lost Pokemon with their owners.
On a routine hunt for lost Pokeballs/Pokemon, the protagonist accidentally stumbles across an ancient temple and discovers an ancient Pokeball (official canon has Pokeballs existing for hundreds of years prior to modern games/series from Apricorn and other such devices). The Pokemon is a one of a kind Pokemon - previously undiscovered - and is brought back to the orphanage. The Pokemon proves to be extremely powerful and unfortunately suffers from PTSD. Wind of the Ancient Temple and Pokemon catches the attention of the A.C.E (Archaeological Corp Expeditions) team who reveal that this Pokemon used to be part of species that were fairly common hundreds of years ago but have since been extinct. Later, we find out that the A.C.E. is a type of Team Rocket-type gang who are trying to do more research on discovering Powerful Pokemon to exploit and attempt to steal the Pokemon from the orphanage which ends up being successful. The protagonist then has to not only rescue the Pokemon but also calm its destructive tendencies through love and therapy (later, the Protagonist would successfully save it from ACE, but in the ensuing escape, would go on a rampage that the protagonist would have to calm).
If this was a game, there would be multiple endings depending on how you play - saving the Pokemon through love and therapy, mercy killing the Pokemon, letting A.C.E. team kill it, letting A.C.E. team keep it for research, setting it free in an enclosed sanctuary, etc.
So yeah, easy to say that some of my friends and I have too much time on our hands. But I would LOVE to play/see a darker series spin-off on the Pokemon series than what we usually see.
What are your guys’ thoughts? Do you have any other spin-offs you’ve imagined?
haha with the above post, you might have a TAD extra time there, but hey who hasnt imagined different scenarios of a hobby they love!? I havnt had much deep thought like yours, however the idea of it all is quite unique and cool if you ask me and would be something awesome to see explored. Its like throwing in the element of a Pokemon once extinct and never accounted for found via a lost Pokeball and then adding a sort of play by your own rules element where you could essentially go different routes as opposed to the hero-esq style which were always used to seeing. I like the idea, but at the end of the day im the weirdo type who never really appreciates added dark elements to things (Life is too dark in general, so I like to see Pokemon as a whole as my escape from the chaos haha) and id be the loser fighting off Rocket to give the Pokemon the love it damn well deserves!!!
Regardless though, this is quite the creative brain you have here and I love the exploration of your imagination! Maybe you could even do some short story write ups just for the hell of it which you could share and id love to read em!
Definitely check out the “Pokemon Adventures” manga if you haven’t already. It’s a Japanese Comic Book series which follows the characters of the games (Red/Blue/Yellow/etc.) and, from the little I’ve been shown, gets pretty dark the further into the volumes you go. While I’ve not read it all myself, my friends who have tell me its a really cool take on Pokemon! @azulryu ,
I second this. Pokemon Adventures is golden . It has been around 4 years or so since I last read some of it, but from what I remember it is a very cool take on Pokemon. It reminds me of the Elseworld tales in DC comics - just the Pokemon version.
