I can see how breaking up the whole can seem contrary to what went into accumulating it all into one collection that your father painstakingly curated. That said, transferring it all to one entity with the purchase power seems sad to me when considering how much joy one could spread by breaking it up for individuals to all have “grails” in their collections. And that’s no guilt trip attempt because I’m not a trophy collector and this collection is top tier trophy cards. I would hope you figure out a way to sell to many individuals as the best way to spread all that joy and probably maximize your sale prices. Either way congrats.
Honestly, I could see someone buying the entire collection someday. It might take some time but it’s an incredible opportunity to get a ton of once in a lifetime cards in one go. If @jolinagisele is not in a rush I think they should stick to selling it as a whole. Not to mention piecing out 60,000 cards of that value sounds like a nightmare for someone who’s not use to selling.
Well after reading through this and watching the video… I am speechless.
Just out of curiosity, what do you estimate this collection to be valued at @lolzicost
This entire thread is a case study in pokemon card collector psychology
The cringe vibe is awesome. It makes me think its like an alternate dimension where everyone lives in a soap opera.
theres no way its any less than 100M in todays values esp if ppl are paying 5 figures for rando reverse holos
and that may not even be close to what they would accept depending if 100M is even a lot of money to them or basically nothing
I find it very funny that the actual only way we can tell if this “Jolina Gisèle” is the real one and not some fake account is when she shares with us her personnal collection. Showing her PC and that it matches her description and persona would be the proof that removes last hints of suspicion
Isn’t that amazing that pokemon cards can do that ? A person’s authentifier and fingerprint
Show me what you collect and I’ll tell you who you are
It’s impossible to price tbh. I feel like everything highlighted in the video alone could match if not exeed value of the PSA 10 Illustrator. The No Rarity PSA 10 set is literally incompletable without buying this collection. But taking a shot in the dark I’d say max $25m in the current market.
Does anyone know what the theoretical unique card limit is, purely for Pokemon TCG cards?
I’ve been working on a database project where all cards in all printed variants are catalogued. Haven’t finished seeding that data yet, but my estimate is somewhere around 250,000 to 500,000 unique cards have been printed. Maybe a bit more, but should be in that neighborhood.
This is more or less exactly what I’m getting at.
Got it. Then this is why you can see someone buying the set in its entirety. For context, last year just an english gold star set sold for 1.25m, there are claims that the record was recently broken with a sale of 3m. I think you might be a little off with your evaluation of this 60,000 slab collection.
If they’re serious about selling, they need to get a few more limited edition Grail Guards on those slabs…
That gold star set sale was an april fools joke. I would guess that the vast majority of the value is in the highlighted cards & sealed product. If you highball everything shown in the video together it’s maybe somewhere between $20m-30m?
We don’t know anything about the other 60k cards but I’d assume it’s a bunch of master sets & bulk ranging from 1 to 9 graded or ungraded. Which I would guess doesn’t amount to a fraction of the value we saw in that video. No way the value of this collection is even close to a $100m but I understand the logic. Because I would definitely value this collection 100x more than a PSA 10 skyridge master set. Not doubting anyone would pay that price either.
You wouldn’t get the full value of this collection if it went to one buyer. That’s not how bulk transactions work. If I had to make a prediction, it will be sold to some institutional buyer that will treat it like a portfolio asset or more likely to someone like Ken Goldin or another auction house that can piece it out into a series of high-attention auctions.
As someone who despises the current state of the current market, I don’t understand the hate towards you and your family. You seem like a very genuine person and passionate fan who’s been collecting long before this stuff was worth millions, not some douchey investor bro who aped in as a get rich quick (or money laundering) scheme. I think the reason for the hate is that the toxicity of all the new investors, cryptobros, influencers, and celebs “in the hobby” has unfortunately tarnished the image of everyone who simply has a bg collection. Just as SMPratte isn’t a NostalgiaNomics or Redbeard, you are not a Logan Paul or Kevin O’ Leary. The hate towards you isn’t warranted at all.
theres no doubt in my mind that there are multiple gold star sets/1st ed base/maybe even shadowless hidden in that closet… considering she whipped out 2 shadowless chansey like it was nothing and those havent been seen in like 8 years
(other than the one that was just auctioned for like 180k)
she has a full tmb VS english set (including the tropical breeze in a 10), the corocoro pika/jiggly in a 10 (these are prolly pop 1 or close), 5 unikarps, snap gary in a 10, all 1999 ssbs in a 10, 2/3 1999 tmb trainers in a 10, multiple 1st ed base gold star rays/torchics 10, 2 shadowless chanseys 10, full no rarity set 10… and this is just from what we can see
theres nothing else that even comes close to this collection and that includes the dubai one
(and who knows how much of that collection is even in tact or sold)
Yeah I am actually quite surprised at the overall lack of reaction and polite responses of the community in front of this collection. I would have imagined this is the kind of revelation that would set hearts ablaze of the collecting community. I mean, isn’t that the ultimate unsurpassable pinnacle of pokemon collection that can never be done again in humanity history ? Or is it my lack of imagination, I’m a newb sorry ![]()
The psa10 no rarity japanese set is out of this world
unless there is one other person that has the rest of the pop on some of these then yes ![]()
